I wonder if a script request to plus.google.com (say, to load the +1 widget) would count? It has to piggyback on your Google login (or else it wouldn't know who to attribute any +1's to), and so would simply loading a page that has a +1 but

Is that one of the services that will take your inane post made on 1 social platform and the mindlessly propagate it to all of the others that you have? If so, that's a point I wanted to bring up: does "active" mean, logs in and does stuff,

The +1 is a feature? I haven't seen any real value demonstrated from it, except as a marketing gimmick my Google. The number of reported "+1's" means absolutely nothing to me.

Exactly, and how many web apps deal with millions of data points? Not many, as far as the view layer is concerned. Perhaps you'll have millions of rows in your DB, but you typically won't process all of those, at once, within PHP or JS. At

For me, I've learned what I've needed to learn to solve immediate problems that I was facing -- more like JIT learning. As such, there's many concepts that I simply haven't had a pressing need to learn and personal curiosities aside, they w

Eh, as a web programmer those certainly aren't a concern for me (and I hope this convo won't devolve into "web programmers aren't real programmers"). For both PHP and JS, there really isn't a difference; you're just given some basic data st

That's cool, I was mainly just commenting on the LinkedIn aspect. Monster.com was probably the biggest mistake I ever made, it took 5+ years for my info to get fully removed there (or at least for the random spambot recruiters to stop spamm

I'm like donretag in the sense that I also seek to minimize my online profile as much as possible; thus, I don't use LinkedIn. So no, the reality is not that it's easily accessible -- unless you're already making it so on sites that are lib

Sounds like a coordinated effort to bypass due process and mete out extrajudicial penalties. Hopefully, though, it's in response to (and replacement for) the absurdity of getting sued for $3mil. because you downloaded a few mp3's or movies.

It's news to me! It probably just took a backseat to SOPA/etc. and was likely tabled at that time, only to resurface now that those efforts have been unsuccessful.

How could they fuck up something so simple? From the looks of the shirt, it's almost as if they'd never even seen the original ads that they're imitating.

But for "this sort of question", is Reddit really that bad for it? I agree that Reddit is a terrible platform for general Q&A content (like SO/SE currently host), but I think it's terrific for subjective content that may include many di

They even state when you go to ask a question: > We prefer questions that can be answered, not just discussed. And to me (and this is of course just my interpretation), but that means that questions that can only yield subjective answer

Nowadays? Apache Chainsaw[1] dates back at least to 2004[2]... Speaking of which, I wonder how/why the dev chose the name "Chainsaw"? Did he not take the 5min. to Google his project's name before he named it? What are the odds that the dev

I think that's unfair, just because you may have some axe to grind with Reddit doesn't mean that it's not a good source of information and discussion. SO works great for some formats, but as a discussion board, it sucks. The question that w

Anywhere that it's appropriate. To expand: the paradigm of only offering +1 and not -1 is, to me, akin to the whole "everybody's a winner" problem; if I go to a product page, and all it has is a +1 button, and the 'score' is 0, then there's
