This is something I keep trying to point out to people. That doesn't mean that Linus is any kind of role model in this way - but people point to open-source interactions as especially "toxic" while ignoring (or being ignorant

I'd start with The Future (1992), I'm Your Man (1988), and Ten New Songs (2001). Those are, IMO, his most accessible and there's a very good chance you already know a few of those songs and haven't realized you kno

That's overly simplistic, in this case. You're not going to sell more buggies by making the quality of your buggy worse, true. But you're _also_ not going to sell more buggies, period, if everybody is preferring cars. Likewis

I'd like to understand whether Gitea really merged a version of that code , or if they had a separate implementation that's in the enterprise version. If they've merged that code but refuse to make it available in the comm

Wolves can eat 20lbs of meat in one meal. They’re hunters that eat their fill when food is present because there’s no guarantee they’ll catch prey later. Not really a reasonable comparison to a domesticated animal that’s not designed for fe

What is the split between ad revenue vs. subscriber revenue? When I used Spotify I was a subscriber so they got one flat fee from me per month that didn't increase no matter how many times I played a song.

Looking at the figures, this means that a band would need to have more than 120,000 plays daily to earn the equivalent of $15 an hour for a 40-hour week. (If my back-of-the-napkin math is correct based on the article saying that 661,400 pla

We knew. This was a dumb move on IA's part. I support the organization wholeheartedly, but it was a dumb and risky move. (They may be morally correct, but there was little if any doubt that they'd overstepped the legal bounds.)

Elon's path may not be the best path to popularity. If Zuck wants popularity, maybe a good way to go about that would be to de-shittify Facebook, Instagram, and so forth so that those platforms respect their users.

For GNOME, the Tiling Shell extension works well for me. I've also used, and liked, gTile. Of course, with an extension there's always the danger that it will break between releases and/or the developer will get bored and sto

It may be a fight worth having, but that wasn’t the way to fight it. There was zero chance this was going to end with a favorable court decision. It only carried risk for the organization - no upside at all.
