This space tends to be not tech saavy or sexy, but has a lot of dollars. Were you mostly collecting the leads and then selling them off to national buyers like QuinStreet etc? That seems to me like the only way to go from $0 to $1mm in a ye

This may seem silly, but I found the most difficult part of learning RoR was getting my development environment set up. I tried several times since 2005 to get started, but failed due to a sticking point that for some reason I couldn't get

Not sure if this is a feasible where you live, but there are a lot of "code with other coders" meetups in SF and NYC. If you come with a programming sticking point, there are fresh eyes that can help you though it. I like codeacademy, but f

I just set up a new dev env on a new OSX, took about 1 day of toying around with a bunch of stuff. Having a preset recipe to follow would have saved me a ton of frustration. When I get another dev machine, will definitely give this a whirl.

Think car dealership. The same general principle applies, but your data sources are dirtier, and the metrics are a bit different. You'd want to track things like cost per call, cost per physical visitor, etc. For effectiveness of online to

But since this last pivot, year over year growth is ~10x! You guys are an example of sticking around long enough and trying enough things that one's finally catching good traction. Congrats Lee, well deserved :)

How do you find these web development "houses"? Seems like a really sweet gig, all the fun stuff without the chasing dead beats for money hassle.

This is pretty cool. Instead of creating an individual board game replacement, you've created an enabling technology to open up the whole space and going for a marketplace play.

Making decisions based on conventional wisdom prevents you from "farming black swans." By asking the other person to do some basic tasks, they're at least passing the equivalent of fizzbuzz in execution ability and motivation.

Your target user is tech saavy, but this is a platform looking for problems. Describing examples with pictures should be good enough for now. When you have real examples from users, then you can screenshot and link them. I'm imagining a hea
