I've seen "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" recommended on book threads on HN multiple times, by multiple people, so I would agree that yes, a lot of other engineers see the similarities! The way the author explains

This. I feel like the article is a little bit too negative, but I've been something pretty much similar. I moved to SF, worked for about 4 years, loved it, but then moved back to Europe and realised "oh wow, it IS a bubble".

The first 13 minutes are just a history of how we got to React. The remaining is the author saying it's bad, but that he doesn't have a solution. Not worth the watch.

Thanks for clarifying! Was not aware of the practice and didn't even notice the states represented the alphabet! (Non US resident here).

wow, crazy how small Pi has become! I remember trying to do a similar project for the bus stop at the corner of my street to know when to leave to catch the bus. It was fun, but I never really finished when I realised how big just the Pi wo

every time Brad Frost writes something a bit controversial, it always feels like he can write and understand html and css, but anything else (including React) is way over his head. No disrespect, it just feels like he's not spending th

This reminds me of the Web Framework From Scratch [0] series from Destroy All Software. A great series of videos worth the subscription! [0] https://www.destroyallsoftware.com/screencasts/catalog/routi...

this resonates. I interviewed a front end enginner last week who had a few years of experience, so not completely junior. He had been working with React most of the time. we did a simple live coding challenge that didnt require React. Only

I don't love micro frontends, but having been in an org that grew very fast to dozens/hundreds of engineers working on FE stuff, Conway's law was definitely at work there. You are definitely right, this really is a case of pr

+1. Never heard of this. Would have probably been a customer. I bought a few raspPi to tinker with stuff but have no idea how those things work and always end up not doing much and getting stuck. Something like MAKE would have helped a lot!

One good thing about programming on Mac is the UNIX environment which basically works just like on Linux. Makes it great for finding questions/solutions that work (vs on Windows for example). Do you see that changing as macOS gets away

Most comments here are about how annoying people asking about X are. We get it, sometimes you are asking about X simply because you need to know about X and you know what you are doing. But often, especially when dealing with more junior en
