This is only true if the EU is not fucked by the gulf stream shutting down. That was considered a remote possibility a mere decade ago, but nowadays some scientists consider it more likely than not.

Also, it’s harder to know if someone is recording. If someone wasn’t recording, the paranoia is much smaller.

When do you think we’ll have something that can do “verify this proof of the ABC conjecture” and it would check the proof?

> They maximize profit, period. This is a modern invention. Corporate charters post Renaissance did not solely focus on making money for shareholders. Go take a look at the history of the Dutch East India Company for example.

And also because "creating problems" that need to be double checked, is a much lower bar than "fraudulent"; especially if accusing someone of fraud can carry slander/libel charges.

I don’t think this is the full story. I’m pretty sure this is a case of parallel construction.

That’s pretty cool information. Also this is the type of stuff where Apple would make sure the end user would not have to worry about it. Charitably, they’d put in the money/effort to make sure all 4 USB ports are the same (notably, al

Yeah, we should totally put our trust in founders who would gladly accept money from immoral sources. We need to understand that society only values who moves first. The early bird gets the worm. If they want to play the game, they need to

Why is that a problem? Hiding has always been easier than detecting in the real world. People are too used to computers which make detection easy. But before computers, a king would have to physically send tax collectors to gather money and

Every once in a while, I get reminded that people don’t necessarily have a scientific background. 1. Water molecules are not indivisible, of course. Many biological processes will rip apart hydrogen and oxygen, or combine them back together

This comment is the summary of the difference between human driven design and technology driven design. Too many people are focused on technology for technology’s sake.

I’d argue wealth is often created by accident. How much wealth did the creation of penicillin create? If anything, we aren’t being cynical enough towards the concept of “self-made”. Every single genius recognizes that they are standing on t
