R.I.P. The XKCD (893) truly nailed it. And, NASA made a typo. > He went into private business and served as television > commentator for early fights of the space shuttle.

Not many options left for exchange scholars beyond the extension of J visas now. It'll have some impact on science output in the US.

on average, the Lisp programs ran significantly faster than the C/C++ programs and much faster than the Java programs (mean runtimes were 41 s for Lisp versus 165 s for C/C++). The only thing I can say is that th

It's a problem with macro heavy code in Nim currently. Macros on typed NimNode still touch too many undocumented/unspecified Nim internals, that it always takes me some time to actually figure out what is the culprit. On the othe

I have love-hate relationship with Nim. It's the best C alternative I can find for our high performance supercomputing needs, yet it breaks my code [0] (yes, it's broken with 0.16.0 now) every single new release for the past year

Buzzwords aside, why do we need GPU-accelerated terminal emulators? What is the real speed constraint in a terminal emulator?

This is fantastic. You can almost use it as a serious console font, except for the single quote being only two pixels. And there is a whole suite of CJK characters. But the up and down arrows are not symmetric, ↑↓.

What you are doing is fine except that when some fonts have their own flavors of the box-drawing characters. See monofur for an example.

Just like every laptop/phone/tablet has a built-in microphone and we can't turn it off either. All it takes is for Apple/Microsoft/Google/Amazon to push a system update, and, voila~~~ Skynet listens to all.

Keeping up with the LLVM internal API is really a pain with the six month cycle. Is there a plan to stabilize it in the near future? I can see some open source project start to really drag, julia is still on llvm 3.7, so does ghc 8.0.1.

DEVONsphere does something close to that. It does a simple keyword analysis and searches local/web. But what you are describing is more of a personal research assistant that's way beyond what today's system can do.

For effective use of such vector instructions, languages like C/C++ really fail at giving enough hints to their compiler. An advanced inspection tool in clang/gcc would certainly help humans to write compiler friendly code, but t

This is the real question here. Unless the mice can explain itself to us, we really have no way to know. But I'm not so sure about the ethics of conducting such experiments on humans.

I got -4 just for stating the same opinion, and found out your comment at the end of this page. Since everything is really text here, the typical UNIX way of doing things seems to be much more practical in dealing text transformations here.
