It seems like you are looking at your thoughts as a part of yourself. They might just be a phenomena triggered by your current circumstances in the same way a sneeze can be triggered by dust.

I think they're referring to materialism, the philosophy that the only thing that exists is matter and it's movements/changes. In other words, it's the belief that there is no soul or supernatural entities.

Seems fine to me as long as it's treated as normal work hours and compensated as engineering time. I wouldn't mind the break from the monotony of sitting at a computer all day.

We built machinery, processes, IP, etc using saved and invested capital. That machinery wouldn't be built without the capital. And thus labor would be nearly valueless. The machines and processes also stop functioning when the owners

Non sequitur. One person retiring early makes no difference in when others retire.

I plan to keep working after FI, but I really only need a couple of days a week. I've always felt 40hrs for 48-50 weeks per year is way too much.

Why? Labor with capital is incredibly more useful and productive than labor alone. We aren't any smarter today than people a couple hundred years ago, the main difference that makes our lives much easier is we've built up various

I could be lured back to WFO by an extra $30k a year commuting bonus and a private office with a door that closes. Seems laughably far-fetched in today's world.

I personally go for a 5 mile jog most days after work. When it gets cold, I put on warmer clothes. These days it gets dark early so I bring a flashlight.

Your wage should also be related to how much work you have to put in. I would expect more money if I was going to work 10 hours a day than 8. And I consider commuting time similar to work time. So, given two otherwise equal job offers, o

But what if you turn that around? If you are currently remote but considering an offer from a place that's in-office, wouldn't you want a higher wage to compensate you for the extra hassle of commuting? That's extra free ti

Try it out. You might find it going off all the time. Even at the tailpipe, CO emissions can be 1000ppm and your car's air intake is well-located to suck that in from the car ahead of you.

I think there's a happy medium. Perhaps closely spaced SFHs or row-houses near a small downtown with rail access to a larger city.

Are you truly living your life in the way you are suggesting other people should here? Do you, for example, eschew all spending that's remotely luxurious and donate it to people that have way less than you? My point is, lead by exampl

Researchers and doctors don't have a simple method to make people lose weight. They can make recommendations for diet and exercise but at the end of the day, most people won't follow them. And forcing millions to stick to a diet

High COL is not an excuse to avoid paying higher taxes. If you can't afford CA (you definitely can on $421k) then live somewhere else. There are dev jobs everywhere.

Nah. Half the reason people buy iPhones is to show other people they aren't poor. Buying a sub-$300 phone doesn't achieve that goal.
