I think this statement is, in general, completely true. But it doesn't actually seem to apply to Apple, which continues to design many aspects of the iPhone. In part this is because Apple essentially funds and builds many of the facto

I've had no real bugs over the 3 Macs I regularly use. Some security-related inconveniences, but I think those are overall worth it.

Well, among other things, English had a word for "brown" long before it had a word for "orange," which as the video described was previously seen just as a shade of red or yellow. Brown is just a more prominent color in

I've read so many of these articles lately. People seem to approach the iPad expecting it to work like a laptop, and when it doesn't, they're off to compose a thinkpiece. Many of these articles also state as a fact things tha

Slide Over is one of the best features out there. And it’s as simple as can be. You get what amounts to a mini iPhone available on command. And split screen is not only very useful, I think it’s a fundamentally better multitasking model t

A completely e2e encrypted backup system would have to include photos (current iPhone backups do not). But true encryption means that when customers forget their passwords, they lose their data. Already, people who don't use iCloud Pho

I get the menu item to change name with option, not shift. Incidentally I've been using a Mac for decades, but I never remember to check what modifiers do. I'd always just copy and then go back and delete. I think the right way t

I sure hope not. Why do I want web pages to be able to run persistent background tasks? Such an obviously bad idea. The tragedy is that Apple actually is implementing support for this garbage.

Web apps suck and all the doodads and gewgaws that browsers now have to implement have made the web a surveillance nightmare that is a worse experience for publishing and reading. There is a place in the world for lowest-common-denominator

It is easier if you use two fingers--one to "pick up" the icon or icon you want to move (you can grab a whole stack of them) and the other to navigate to where you want to be.

Yeah, but it can't usefully convert PDFs. To make a PDF usable on an e-reader you've got to trim the margins, and chop it into pages that exactly fit the e-reader screen (in landscape, due to line length issues)--and even then so

My need to read PDF ebooks led me to just start using an iPad Mini as a reader. The app PDF Expert does a great job of trimming margins making almost every PDF perfectly readable on that size of device. (To really read every PDF without com

One point that is so basic that physicists often forget to explain it: leptons and quarks don't really have a "size," they are considered point particles. A proton is a configuration of three point particles though whether it

iCloud sharing works the same way, however the public links expire. (When you share photos with someone via iMessage and it creates an iCloud link rather than iMessaging the photos, it's just a public, unguessable URL).
