I was super impressed by the O’Reilly book, which throws you right in to writing a multithreaded Mandelbrot set plotter. It also goes through writing a multithreaded HTTP server. Pretty neat!

I'm hoping that more apps start accepting NFC security tokens for mobile apps. Apple says they added NFC FIDO-2 authentication support in iOS 13.3[0], but I have yet to see an app that allows me to authenticate that way. [0]: https:&#

But that’s exactly how I would say it: “millions of dollars was at stake.” To me, what you propose seems like a mistake someone just learning English would make. Give it a specific sum: you wouldn’t say “two million dollars were at stake,”

If you're dealing with multiple processes persisting data to different data stores, you're dealing with a distributed database problem, which has many more failure modes than the ones you've described here. If there's an

Maybe not, but a properly tuned and lubricated bike is waaaayyyyy more pleasant to ride and may help to encourage increased bike use. It's easier to do stuff when it's pleasant.

The PLB is really a single-use device. When activated it's supposed to be able to continuously transmit for 24 hours. On my PLB, the batteries are rated to expire after 10 years, after which you buy a new one. Making batteries replacea

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your experiences up! I have found SAR fascinating for a long time, and am kind of interested in getting involved, but it seems like an insurmountable commitment.
