It seems some localizations are not available yet in the new app (for example Japanese language), and my old messages would not decode (but I solved it using the backup key). Otherwise looks great, it seems the app loads much faster.

In essence it is what you mentioned, these are a few practical uses: - Streaming region locked content from overseas. - Permanent reverse-tunnel for remote-access with autossh. - Increased security compared to making services visible to the

I learned how to use ssh tunnels when wanting to bypass a firewall in my university network around 15 years ago, had to change the default port to 443. Been using it ever since for so much more than just bypassing firewalls.

If you want to justify it, just frame it as a personal goal and do it. That way you don't have to measure any benefit from your career perspective, you did it because you wanted to grow as a person, and any benefits are a side effect.

After years working with two computers, the best setup I came up with is making my main computer run Windows with Remote Desktop and connecting to it via VPN. Then my portable computer is just an iPad running the Remote Desktop client. Exce

Your second source mentions you have to change a variable in bash to opt out for telemetry, I fail to see where the FUD is.

When using Microsoft repositories you need to explicitly opt out on telemetry collection. I think telemetry collection alone should be a good reason for Debian to consider repackaging it. I don’t want telemetry to be collected on my GNU

So what you mean is that the nationality of a person makes it better or worse for them to criticize Brazil’s Supreme Court? It does not matter. If people are driven by different ideologies, well this is just how it is. I’m not saying Musk i

My ideal portable machine would be an ARM laptop, Thinkpad x220 build and an e-ink screen running Linux. With the right power management, it could last days on battery.

I think it might be a motivation for competitors when they are already at the top, it is a way they can compare their performance with all past (and future) performances, and most importantly, with their own performance in other competition

Very nice, sometimes people claim that the only difference between distros is the repository and package management tools. It is when the defaults make the parts integrate nicely like this that the “greater is more than the sum of its parts

I had this happen to one of my VMs, I was trying to compile something and went out of memory, then tried to stop the VM and it only came back after 15 min. I think it is a good compromise, long enough to give a chance for a clean reboot but

All the photos seem to have broken links, but for some of them you can get their direct link and remove the "-scaled" part to get a higher resolution. Not for the Kimchi one though.

When things work fine, then the average person does not need a terminal. When you do have to fix something, you need a terminal. On Windows you need to touch the registry or worse. Try attaching a debugger to figure out the reason of a blue

Didn’t they buy their open source competitor, Sharelatex, adopted the code only to cripple the free functionality like git support behind a paywall? I may be wrong but I think they were proprietary before the acquisition.

There are some books where if you exceed a certain number of highlights, they are not saved on the file anymore, and I’m pretty sure it also affects the web version too. This is set as part of the DRM, so be careful that you are really savi

To me it sounds that anyone could implement Microsoft’s approach as an app, there is no reason for it to be bundled with the OS. The only difference would be it would cost users token costs directly as opposed to be paid by other means.

For things that don’t leave your system it’s ok, but the moment you send something to others it will go into the systems that you try to avoid anyway. Mostly I see no point in things like email self hosting if half my contacts are on Gmail
