I really dislike this kind of logic. Just because a greater problem exists, does not mean nobody should be allowed to focus on anything else. Should I not be allowed to volunteer or donate money to Hurricate Sandy relief efforts in the NYC

Care to elaborate? From what I've seen, the UI has gotten pretty good marks in general.

I jumped to conclusions there I suppose. I figured he was just taking 2^(number of fingers) and calling that counting.

By that logic, you could count to 100k on one hand in base10. If you count your fingers in binary, it would still be 5 years, it would just be expressed in writing as 101 instead of 5.

What is better about the iPhone's turn-by-turn? I've never used it, but I am really happy with Google's Navigation on my Galaxy Nexus. It's always been accurate and responsive, it starts up much quicker than the standalone GPS units I've

Not saying that I agree or disagree with the hypothesis, but it does assume that all other variables remain the same. By moving to a different area with more stuff to do, you invalidate the experiment. That's akin to saying exercising eve

That's a pretty bold generalization. "People like him" prefer big cities for a lot of diverse reasons, most of which are probably not that they do not want to own a car. Not needing to own a car is a result of the convenience of a big cit

That's about $8/day. I probably spend close to 10x that on food living in Manhattan. Granted I go out a lot and that's including drinks at dinner, but even not going out to eat at all and fasting every other day I have no idea how I'd onl

Everything I've seen has shown NYC is still slightly higher than SF. Do you have any sources other than this one guy's personal experience?

Is this in line with expected salaries/equity for a #4-6 employee of a pre-series A startup in SF? What about NYC? For some reason I thought equity would be a bit higher for the first few employees.

It is a form of a verb, but it essentially becomes a noun. Which brings me to my next point- [VERBing] is a participle in this case, not a gerund, since it's an adjective modifying "people."

I can't tell if "Vietcom" is a typo or a clever adaptation of Viet Cong to high-tech companies.

You are completely wrong. Try looking into the circumstances before you make some unfounded accusation about what caused this. Comparing a 45 minute isolated incident at a firm with an otherwise-excellent reputation to the housing crisis

Exactly. Your server could query the DB for a bunch of rows from a User table and send the data to your client. On your client you'd have a User model, and a UserCollection that contains many Users.

Something related on a literal level to the article's metaphor- there's a bar in Midtown Manhattan called Vanderbar that sells a $50 Kobe beef hot dog topped with caviar.

I think there are two reasons why the comparison of Norway's reaction to America's reaction is not completely valid. The first is the population difference (mentioned a lot already). The second is the timeframe. Norway had the benefit of

I'm interested to see how this turns out if you pursue it. We actually applied to this past YC with a very similar concept. We got rejected, and were later convinced by a former YC founder that it was too much of a big change for most emai

As I read more of these arguments, it makes me think a lot about whether I should switch to CoffeeScript before my web app gets any larger. Has anyone switched to CS or another language that compiles to JS, and regretted it?

First off, I agree that the SAT is not a good indicator of intelligence. That being said, this argument is missing the point: > Beethoven would not have gotten a perfect score on his SAT's. However, we all can attest to his innovation

Poor choice of words in "God's work." I didn't mean to insinuate that they had to be religious, just that they are hacking for some ideal(s) rather than personal gain or just to be a dick. Anonymous, for example.

It'll be interesting to see if these two breaches lead to either: 1. A large number of websites realizing that their lazy authentication is a time bomb, and fixing it. 2. A large number of attackers realizing that many more websites probabl
