Sounds about right. When my house in College Park was robbed, I never wound up getting any insurance money for my stolen property because I just couldn't string together enough competent employees to complete the process.

Having gone to University of Maryland, I have to say that I am not at all surprised that this occurred in PG County. Every time I had to deal with county police or government for any reason, it was a miserable experience that showed severe

Something I noticed as an undergrad Comp Sci major was the disparity in the grade curves for my classes and those of my friends in other majors ( cough business school cough ). If you look at the business classes' historical grade di

Just taking out Dropbox and Airbnb, the average for the rest already drops quite a bit. With Dropbox at more than $4bil [1] and Airbnb at $2.5bil [2], that leaves the remaining 283 at about $5bil total, or $17.6mil each. Taking out others l

For some perspective, my degree at a public state university in the US cost about $20,000 per year. That was almost 10 years ago. There are plenty of universities in the $40-50k per year range.

My side project[1] is an interactive table component that allows the user to provide the table data through an arbitrary callback. I allow the use to either pass an actual function or a reference to inline code that will be instantiated as

I use Blobs to instantiate workers in one of my side projects, and it has always made me wonder: Why isn't the option to instantiate a web worker using inline code built in to the browser APIs?

I disagree. Screen sizes are always quoted in diagonal length. edit: Not to say that it is unreasonable to think of screen size as area, but I think it is also reasonable to think in diagonal length, since that is the way monitors and TVs

That's a false dichotomy. It is certainly possible to know your algorithms and data structures and still be able to ship code. I can implement quick sort for you, but I know well enough not to actually do it in practice.

I'll agree with you about SQL injection, but I don't see how you could miss unit testing in any decent CS program. You may be able to avoid seeing version control if you purposely stick to the hardcore math and theory classes without ever t

I actually think it does a good job at giving a sense of scale for a petabyte in terms of video hours. "13 years of HD video" does a lot more for me than "1 million gigabytes," which was basically my frame of reference before. However that'

That's good advice. I'll probably give Reddit a shot at some point. I am pretty jealous of your API docs for backgrid. What do you use to generate that? Also, my 17kb quote is minifed but not gzipped. ATable comes out to 5.1kb gzipped. Tha
