As far as I can tell, that number is completely speculative, which makes this essentially misinformation in my view. Here’s a more balanced look at the decision: https://calmatters.org/environment/climate-change/20

He literally listed a bunch of provable facts, then suggested reasonable concern about folks’ safety. This isn’t a game. People’s lives are at stake here.

A piece written by the interns is absolutely not a withdrawal of the endorsement by the Nation. Please don’t mislead people.

Nah, I was just pushing back on the notion that Houston is that much “lower” than SF, when it is not. Wild to get downvoted for that factual statement.

The elevation of Houston is _higher_ than the elevation of SF. Yes, there are many hills, and the _max_ elevation is obviously higher, but there are also plenty of low lying areas and areas at sea level.

7000 fpm is not all that unusual during a descent. What’s unusual here is the proximity to the ground. Nothing in this story indicates there is necessarily anything wrong with the aircraft, and I think more likely this is pilot error. I’m a

Metrolink goes right from Rancho Cucamonga to Union Station in about 75 minutes. Did you bother to check that before posting?

This is a terrible prediction. This project is extremely easy in comparison to California HSR because it’s all running in the I-15 right-of-way. There’s also no reason whatsoever to think you can’t run high speed trains on this route.

Agreed. The reply I was responding to went way too far in the other direction, though, which is why I took issue with it.

Except this was an actual real accomplishment, whose out of patent idea was used later by the Navy: https://physicsworld.com/a/a-tale-of-two-lives/ . The application was indeed original, as evidenced by the receipt

Yeah, Bazel’s ergonomics can leave a lot to be desired, but to me the results are worth those issues. In general, changes to Bazel rules are much less common compared to code changes, so at least it’s only a small subset of time where you m

It’s a somewhat steep learning curve, but in my experience once you have your Bazel rules set up properly, it’s incredibly powerful, enabling lots of time savings from caching, as well as helping enforce reproducible outputs.

Bazel is supported by Google and is quite good. I’d certainly take it over CMake.
