While women are absolutely disproportionally affected by a couple having children, in general raising a family needs to be made such that it isn’t so disruptive to… well, basically everything. In today’s economy once a couple has even one k

Hamburger menus are among my greatest gripes with GNOME. In apps with any functionality at all they end up being poorly organized junk drawers filled with odds and ends, and because they have to be somewhat short to be effective, functions

Not sure either but people with Indexes, Vives, etc seem to be competitive on the Beat Saber leaderboards so any loss can’t be too bad.

Doing so requires a SteamVR headset, though. I’m using a Quest 2 which only works well with Windows. Up to date compelling SteamVR options are starting to appear however so I might see if I can move over to one of those in the next year or

Yep. DRM’d online stuff and VR mainstays (Beat Saber, primarily) are the two sets of games that are keeping me tethered to Windows at the moment. VR games can be played via a Windows VM with GPU passthrough but for DRM’d online games you do

Same. I’ve had great luck with both the TS3+ and TS4. What few minor gripes I’ve had with them have been resolved by firmware updates. It’s other brands, especially USB-C (rather than Thunderbolt) stuff that I find extraordinarily flaky.

I do this too. Main monitor has sets of desktops for “primary” tasks (e.g. IDE windows) while the secondary has several “auxiliary” desktops (one for email, one for chat, one for documentation, etc). The ability to mix and match these betwe

I have one of those Thunderbolt Displays and it’s been a trooper. Sitting at around a decade old now and still works great. Its connector is getting worn out but as long as I don’t bump the TB2 → TB3 adapter it’s connected with it’s solid.

The local nature of farmers’ markets is important for many people, I suspect. Regardless of actual impact it feels good to support small farmers within driving distance.

This was also my thought. Farmers’ markets often have varieties you’d never see at grocery stores, which is part of the appeal.

And much of the “noisiness” stems from tooltips, popups, etc explaining changes and additions. I can see where some users might want those but it should be possible to disable those entirely, or at least make them more “quiet” (e.g. a notif

Firefox is not my primary browser on macOS for similar reasons. Given how similar iOS is to macOS I wouldn’t expect the situation to be much different with a hypothetical Gecko-based version of Firefox for iOS — the performance and efficien

Agree that my biggest gripe with iPadOS is third party apps that don’t take advantage of the platform. Cross-platform apps are the most notorious, usually being stretched out phone apps rather than proper tablet apps. It’s still a far sight

It’s rumored that the OLED panel used in the new iPad revision won’t be a bog standard OLED, but instead a variant that emphasizes longevity and burn-in resistance by stacking two OLED layers atop each other (on top of the usual binning App

Closest I’ve found is manually switching the machine plugged into a TB 4/USB 4 dock (CalDigit TS4), with the cables for each computer being managed when unplugged by a magnetic cable pad[0]. It’s a bit clunky but not too bad once you h

Yes, ports where each platform is treated as a checkbox to be ticked are practically always poor, with little to no testing. The dev dumps a cross-compiled binary they may not even be capable of running themselves and that’s the end of it.

It seems like a lot of the newer UI frameworks are weirdly lacking when it comes to a few highly functional widgets like that… UI-as-branding custom styled buttons are prioritized over rich textviews and tableviews/datagrids.

It’s been probably a decade since I last tried it, but Enlightenment is interesting and somewhat quirky… definitely a change of pace from the usual suspects. Might have to try it again just to see how it’s changed.

For things like text readability, much of the fault lies on developers for not using parameterized colors (e.g. “primary text”, “secondary text”, etc) which can change as needed to fit light/dark mode, accessibility modes, and even thi
