That’s the meaning in Manchester too. Extreme state of intoxication by alcohol. Beyond mere “I’m drunk”.

Time would feel faster too. We perceive time moving faster as we age. Apparently, it’s because our perception of time is relative. At 5 years old, 1 year feels like a long time because it’s 20% of our lives. But 1 year at 30 years old is a

Manchester is full of them. Majority of junctions on the M60, the motorway circling the city, have roundabouts after you come off / before you get on. In fact, there are two roundabouts in Worsley/Walkden. Though those cause a hug

I have quite the story. I was terrified I wouldn’t be able to focus. Terrified I’d get distracted by home life. That my productivity would plummet. But it didn’t happen. In fact, the opposite. I never realised how much commuting and office

Not sure if that’s the point of the comment. The point of the linked text, maybe, which is why I offered my critique. If “simplicity is good” was the only thing you took away from the comment, you might want to re-read it.

This is an excellent comment and illuminates what I’ve come to realise myself re. the parallels of writing and programming. In fact, writing is a core part of my workflow: I write to problem solve. A clear problem definition and potential s

Why? Breast cancer is cancer of the breast tissue. It’s a different disease to prostate cancer, which is again a different disease to colon cancer and leukaemia. That’s why there probably won’t be a universal “cure for cancer”. Breast or pr

That’s my number one problem solving strategy. 1. Batter my brain 2. Do something else 3. Sleep on it 4. Aha moment I do it so often, I just say to colleagues that “It’s stewing in the back of my head for a bit” or “Need to sle

I’ve noticed this in other contexts too. For small queries with straight forward joins, a query builder is nice and readable. But for larger, more complex queries, I found putting the query into its own file was best for readability.

Similar thing happened to me but with Of Mice and Men and Macbeth. Come to enjoy those stories but it always felt like I was meant to glean a deeper meaning than even the author intended!

To be fair, Google can deliver that quality because they have so much more data. For every search in Bing where a user clicks on the first result and never clicks back on the first search, Google will much more. Likewise, for every frustrat

How interesting, I was reading about this last night. In fact, El was a god worshipped by early Israelites, hence the -el in Israel. Yahweh was a god and worshipped at the time. But over time, Yahweh became the single worshipped god, who be

I was looking for books on “dark psychology” (don’t, they’re garbage). One book I found had great reviews. So good, in fact, two different verified purchasers were compelled to write the exact same review verbatim. I mean if you’re gonna wr

There’s a few issues with this post. It starts off great but falls down hard. For one, PHP did not start out object oriented. Nor did it come with an IDE. Sure, it was dynamically typed (unlike Java). If I recall, it was 1994 too but I can’

Hrm, I read the book and the code samples were in mainstream languages, naturally, but there wasn’t a specific reference to OO. Algorithms by Sedgewick had more reference to OO but we don’t say that book is overly biased towards OO. The tex
