The language has more powerful functions available, or at least it did when I first compared them. I also find Compass, Bourbon and Susy to be great assets. The Chrome dev tools support is outstanding. The biggest drawback is that there's n

Smart! Any plans to work with multiple languages? I'm an English-speaker, and I'd love something similar in the other direction.

Is there any chance you could elaborate on some of the terms in your second paragraph?

People prefer to parse problems that personally perplex. I have strong opinions and knowledge about what I'd want from a photo sharing service. A medical image sharing service? Not a clue. Nice alliteration, btw.

Just a terrible article. "Arial and Helvetica are the default font stack for most browsers and for most of the websites. That's bad, really really bad. Arial and Helvetica suck on web and for paragraphs of text - they are quiet *(sic)

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough there. I feel that the way you construct an array and pass it to WP_Query is clear and easy to use. Here's a random example from that docs page: $args = array( 'post_type' => 'my_custom_post

What about generating queries is complex enough to make you feel like such a simple generator is necessary? I would heartily agree that the documentation [1] isn't great, but it's generally very easy to use and quite powerful. [1] http://c

Very cute! Love the sentence-based construction. This would be really strong if it allowed you to generate more complex queries. For instance, you can't select more than one post status, select a custom post type, or use meta fields as part

I come from a photography and design background, and I've tended to naturally write code much like the author is suggesting. However, the for loop is mystifying to me, but I don't fully understand the actual code there. Would anyone care

I like the idea of reminding users of password rules, perhaps after the first password entry failure.

This is a very tangible problem, and a very solvable one when the right considerations are applied. Good on you for bringing it up. Personal expression, especially at a level as simple as a name, shouldn't be limited by bad software design.

Wow! That's amazingly easy for good-enough results. With some general UI slickening up (good suggestions in this thread), this could save a lot of people a lot of time. How have Adobe not wrapped this into Photoshop yet?

There were a few others that I think were around in 2008, like Starkers, but my memory's a bit fuzzy so don't take that with any great authority. I definitely agree that a best-practise step-by-step theme construction guide in the Codex wou

You're completely right on that, and I couldn't agree more; the mystery of the global states is frustrating to a new WP developer. Additionally, Wordpress has tons and tons of bad functions. If so many themes weren't dependent on them, I'

This is a good, simple theme, at least in PHP terms, and is certainly well commented. However, I think it heavily falls down in it's ambition of being a good general-purpose starter theme by making some strongly opinionated decisions out of

The excellent Automattic-published starter theme Underscores [1] has been around for over a year now, and it's precursor, Toolbox [2], has been around since at least mid-2010. Both were designed by the core developers to be open-source base

Very, very cool. We'll be able to use some of these concepts in the real world in about 8 or so years, but someone needs to be sitting on the bleeding edge and abusing CSS like this.

I've never really been able to solidly get into Fireworks, despite trying several times. The fans love it, but I've personally found it very clunky. However, a colleague swears by it for designing and developing HTML email newsletters. The

Great post. I will note that the non-uniform letterforms of Comic Sans have made it a popular typeface for dyslexics, which is likely why it's a choice.[1][2][3] [1] http://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/about-dyslexia/further-informa... [2] http:

That's not too bad for an information-dense site. You've not had many page loads. Plus, you can find it very easily by putting "council tax band" into the search box.

I'm going to go against the HN grain and say that it's great. Frequent complaints I hear about local authority websites boil down to: 1. Too much top-level navigation - choice is confusing. 2. No idea which information is in which section.

Did you even read the article? You're doing exactly what the author warns against. You're casting an entire country as psychopathic terrorists because a couple of émigrés did something horrific.

Nice, though it would be awesome if it could client-side resize images over a certain size, like Plupload does. Helps to manage people uploading 4000px wide images straight out of their camera.
