I use Django a lot. I'm quite proficient in Python and really like the batteries-included approach of Django. For REST APIs you have the Django Rest Framework.. I used to use Flask, but I don't like to have to repeatedly have to c

I agree with you on this! The right column is just a waste of horizontal space after the first scroll down, as the information there was on the top previously (it's a few not-quite-important things that are wasting an entire column)..

I also agree that most developers are easily able to set up a cronjob locally. However, cronjobs may easily fail to start or may not finish on time. In the future I would like to add a way for users to add retries, timeouts, and grace perio

This is a simple application that triggers GET requests periodically. I'm currently using it to trigger the sending of emails of another of my apps ( http://mailaday.com/ - checks due emails every 5 minutes). This is cu

Cool! But if you want to go still lower level, maybe you could implement the basics of HTTP by reading and writing to the socket. In Python the basics are quite easy (I wrote something about it here: http://joaoventura.net/b

My astrology charts app for android [1] brings me about 5€/month. I earned more by doing some consulting with the technology I use for this app (Pybridge [2]) than with the app itself. My web app [3] earned only 50€ since 2016. My othe

I do agree with you on this! I tried to follow the tutorial, but it is not easy for me to decipher the syntax without checking line by line. Maybe I'll come back to this eventually, but would prefer Intel syntax for readability..

Tested right now: 8 seconds of a white screen, then the blue logo appears for 2 seconds, and finally, at second 10, mails start to appear.. That is why I always test my apps on older hardware.. That, and because i only have old devices.. :)

A simple strategy is to include only the pyc or pyo files inside a zip file, and it will continue to work as well..

The answer to that post is mine, and i confirm that there’s some delay on start but on a moto g 2014 that i have it is ~3 seconds which is not much. By comparison, Outlook takes more than 10 seconds to start on my iphone 5s..

Libpython.a (and the others) have ~50MB and the standard library zip is ~4MB. But note that libpython and the others are fat libraries which includes X86 code that is only relevant for the iOS emulator and could be stripped eventually on re

As the sibling commenter said, that project and kivy are geared to write android and ios apps entirely in Python. My approach is different. I have most of the business logic in Python (I share lots of code between a web app and an Android a

I have an Android app on the Play Store which uses Python and can confirm that the startup time is slow because of the imports. I think one possible solution could be to invoke the start of the interpreter outside the UI thread, at least it

Right! But as I said, the low traffic volume doesn’t require more than this kind of architecture. I do regular file backups and have a cron job restarting the web apps each 20 minutes, it’s enough for now. I would love to have a more solid

If you have ssh access to your web host, you may be able to upgrade it yourself. I needed something more recent for django 2.2 and had to download the latest sqlite, compile it, put the lib in some folder and add the lib to .bashrc so that
