The problem with computers and "feeling fast" though is that it tends to wear off.

It's actually a lot more like the travelling salesman problem, for which there are no algorithms (well, some heuristical algorithms).

A similar argument actually goes for experiments that are somehow affected by computer networks. If scientists use grid-computing, cloud-computing, or just the plain regular Internet, there is no way to accurately reproduce results for dist

If this was truly an AI approach then the reprogramming would not be necessary. Reprogramming Deep Blue is like replacing Kasparov with Anand, halfway through the match.

The circumstances of that match are still very very shady. Deep Blue prepared for the match using full knowledge of every game Kasparov ever played. Kasparov was not granted access to any game that Deep Blue ever played. During the match

tabs and spaces are different things to the Python interpreter. If you really want to, you can mix them in your code. But you cannot mix tabs and spaces on the same indent level.

Overheard in Pompei (Italy), one american teens describing the scene of the ruins to another: "It's like like like like." (Yes, I am serious, and so was he)

I would think that if the prices are not set in the contract, and the prices are subsequently raised each year, then you're changing the terms of the contract. IANAL, but I would think that that entitles you to get out of the contract.

The introduction is a nice piece of trivia. However, it bears almost no relation to the message that the story is supposed to convey. ("Legal support f-ed up reading a contract" versus "being careful about designing a UI")

I don't know about the US, but over here in the Netherlands any service must respond to a request to remove your records. They must comply, or provide a very good reason why your comments/submissions must remain. (In discussions comments ca

If I look at how I try to target these keys (on my MacBook Pro), I hit the top ridge of the keyboard, and then hit the top of the function key. The vertical size of these keys doesn't matter much then. Same for the loose keyboard, I hit the

The claim for having the busiest bicycle street of the west is frankly ridiculous. The guy must never have been to the Netherlands. I myself live in Utrecht, and we have streets that see more than 2000 bicycles at 8:30am, let alone at 11am
