What is the point of Autopilot? It's not self-driving. You're not supposed to let go of the steering wheel and you have to be completely alert to take over if there are problems. Isn't it easier to just not use it in the f

Isn't Engineered wood a pretty big improvement over plain wood? I'm thinking wooden I Beam joists, LVL, and OSB for sheathing.

Studded tires make a significant different in ice, and can help to get our of those ice ruts as well. I went down enough times in the ice to move to carbide studded snow tires and it helped a lot. My bike commute is a lot farther now thou

I'm in the exact same scenario. Mikrotik Router and a Ubiquiti API. I do have an older 2011, the 3011's are much faster. The 3rd party firmwares aren't as powerful as mikrotik's RouterOS, and the Mikrotik hardware is r

I had it as well at 100Mbs before Google fiber. The service itself worked great, but it had to be subsidized by taxpayers throughout its lifetime - it never broke even after the subscribers fees.

That has been tried in a few places, and I'm not sure that it has succeeded anywhere. Municipal fiber was laid where I used to live in Provo, UT and it had huge funding problems. ISPs could compete, but all the value is in the last

I don't agree about -10 C not being a big deal. On my previous bike commute my winter travel time was under 25 minutes. With the right studded snow tires I had enough control over my bike unless snow was very deep. Clothing was man

While I was figuring out winter cycling in Utah I did fall a few times on icy sections. This was never a big deal because those sections were walking and cycling paths. However, falling while riding on sections of road that I have to shar

Nissan has a different take on solving this problem by having variable compression on their new VC-T engines that were on here a few weeks ago. That approach is nice because you don't have to fill any reservoirs and can still get high

If I'm reading this right, most plug in systems currently are a third of the 20kW rating of this charger, but this wireless charger is 90% efficient. So the extra 2kW is just lost to heat? That's a lot of energy to lose - I'

My experience in endurance sports is with cycling, and I have a friend that used a "ketosis" diet to help lose some weight. My understanding of the fat burning process is that it can only happen so fast, so with fat as your fuel

This is such a huge advantage for the approach. It makes it so much easier to build a query with variable filters than using SQL text.

There are plenty of shave soaps that moisturize and smell great. I've got a couple that smell great and produce a fantastic lather. I don't trust myself with a straight razor, but the DE razor works really well for me. Plus it s

I really don't understand how "3) Penetrate and Patch" is a bad idea. The argument is: > Your software and systems should be secure by design and should have been designed with flaw-handling in mind I'm not sure I wo

That's a really interesting article. It is fair to point out (which the article does as well) that the athletes were running at 75% of V02 max, which is lower than when racing in cycling. I ride a lot, and anecdotally I had a cycling

Mogreet only does short codes for MMS, though. I've been looking for a service that has MMS support for long codes/full phone numbers for a while so seeing this news today was pretty exciting for me!

I'm in the same boat. My insurance premium changed this year to $950 a month. We have 3 younger kids and are all healthy. I would be paying almost $12,000k a year for the privilege of being able to pay "less" after the deductible is met.

This reminds me of a topic that had come up earlier last year: Intermitten problems with 32bit programs in go. If I remember correctly programs would crash intermittently if the initial 512MB memory block requested wasn't contiguous. Doe

There is also the advantage that trading in a car to the same dealership you buy from will deduct this from the sale price of the to-be-purchased car so sales tax can be reduced to zero depending on the trade-in.
