Do we have any indication how big the attack is? If the attack volume isn't very big, this isn't news.

If they have now introduced it, that's great. I was never offered it; perhaps it varies by region (us/fr/ie). I suggest making sure that you get automatic renewal before signing up for any services. (And then be sure that

Personally, I don't want a sequence of emails; I want automatic billing. Maybe someone from Stripe can persuade OVH that PayPal is not the best way to process payments (please?)

I would stay away from OVH until they fix their billing system. At least on the server side, you have to log in and pay an invoice by PayPal each month. And if you forget, they delete the server without further warning. Love the services,

This looks interesting, but you probably don't want to anchor your pitch on the idea that JAXB requires getters & setters, because that's simply wrong: @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.FIELD)

Proving ownership by sending email to the contacts in the WHOIS record is the _only_ way I've seen for the cheapest certificates. What other ways are you thinking of, and can you point to any CAs that do them (for their cheapest certi

If your CA doesn't let you renew your cert well in advance of expiry (which I find hard to believe), get a new cert on a different CA. You can have multiple certs valid for the same domain name, from different providers; the active ce

The glib answer is that a cloud provider understands the need for a private network. But, in that is a deeper truth: a VPS is a cheaper machine. It becomes "cloud" when you use many machines together. If you're using many m

EC2 (and OpenStack) uses security groups to give you the best of both worlds: shared address space so you _can_ route to other customers; but the firewall means you have to explicitly allow the traffic.

Personally, I'm very disappointed that we've lost immutability, along with support for nullable fields (e.g. Protobuf3 now assumes that 0 == null).

If you're mmaping a file and processing the majority of it, you really are typically doing that in C today if you care about performance. You can get acceptable performance in Java with ByteBuffers, but because of the lack of value ty

I disagree pretty strongly with the idea that: "there is no way of telling that [a method] may throw an exception". If you want reliable code, you have assume that _every_ method can throw an exception. (Or, assume that methods

OK: I think it's clear that the patch that I (and some other users) want isn't welcome, so I won't be wasting any further time on it.

The doublespeak here is that you say you would welcome a patch if it was "properly implemented", but then it turns out you mean "if it does ACLs and does not replace the default registry". You claim this is for the good

I will happily provide a patch that implements the desired functionality :-) However, I think people want the option of not using the docker registry. It is not under their control, it is slow, and it is a single point of failure. Having

That's great news. What do you consider a "properly implemented patch"? I would think the most bulletproof & simplest patch would simply allow the default index (index.docker.io) to be reconfigured to something else in

I would agree that Docker has some flawed fundamentals, that it has many implementation flaws, and that is over-hyped. Out-of-the-box it is even almost useless for real-world production usage. But - despite agreeing with your words - I wou

For me, the killer feature of Go is that it produces executables that are quick to start up and run with a small memory footprint. It is great for utilities or agents or small daemons; where startup time or memory size are critical. It ca

An SSH key is equivalent to a (self-signed) SSL client certificate. I would love to see an easy way to use your SSH key as a client certificate - either an external tool or the browser itself could support this.
