http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/the-biggest-myths.html Myth: systemd is about speed. Yes, systemd is fast (A pretty complete userspace boot-up in ~900ms, anyone?), but that's primarily just a side-effect of

I wrote up a quick version of this in python (assuming I read it right). Rather than try to keep track of profit and loss it just plays for 1000 rounds and figures out the max cost per game that would have broken even. There's differe

Docker isn't perfect, but you can't argue with the fact the container ecosystem was rather stagnant until recently. For years I knew of openvz (weird? needs custom kernel? supported?) and lxc(seems to be low level? how do I get st

Exactly.. sandboxing helps with this, not unix style permissions. You still see a ton of comments saying things like "OS X and linux are secure because they use unprivileged accounts". But the security on unix is primarily to sec

I used to use some solaris boxes, that was always painful. I knew some sysadmins liked it. There definitely was a mindset of some admins that solaris boxes were great. You did a full install of solaris that took up like 8G of disk space.

Don't really understand your reply. Linux and GNU and {free, net, open}bsd are created and maintained "for free". Can things only have value if they cost money? Is the unix certification only for large companies who can afford

Is the certification from "The Open Group" relevant to anyone? OS X 10.10 ships with a version of bash from 2007. Without something like homebrew or macports to install an updated userland the "Unix" core of OS X is rot
