I'd like to know where the reports are that Apache 2.4 was faster than Nginx. The test in the post hardly seems exhaustive; most web servers do more than serve up a 9kb file on the loopback address. I have to imagine, that the actual 'repor

I don't think it's quite that mischievous. I mean, he doesn't mention Basecamp Next anywhere in the post. He's basically making the reasonable point to build quality shit people actually want to use without accounting gimmicks and all else

IE7 doesn't support data-URIs. If you still support IE7 (it's not dead yet), sprites are still your friend. Not to mention, data in the css can get kind of unwieldy if you're encoding many or large images. Keeping it in a sprite keeps it ti

They pay mine, too, but that doesn't mean I have to like them. It also means I try and not view them on my own site to cost our advertisers money.

I bought one for my wife as a birthday gift. After reading the reviews, she didn't want the Fire. I returned it and got the $109 no-keyboard no-touch kindle instead, and she loves it. E-Ink is just such a better reading experience than a LC

I'm really digging it as well. The layout is pretty great. Whatever the CMS is, they're getting a ton of flexibility out of it. It feels like a more integrated media experience -- typography, video, photography, infographics, user comments,

I do front end dev work, and mostly it comes down to experience. I usually try to work out a small test of some of the more complicated problems beforehand, so I might have a sense of how much time they'll take. Then I break the project dow

The density in cul-de-sac neighborhoods is still too low to make it possible for residents to get to any of the basic services they need (school, grocery, etc) without driving. Adding a few roads to shave a mile or two off a commute or trip

How is carrying all that fuel used in landing up to space more efficient than, say, a parachute? I'm assuming someone at Space X did at least some back of the napkin math, but color me skeptical.

This sounds like the tips & tricks you see in Pagespeed/Yslow, moving it to a proxy, coupling it with something like SPDY, and mixing in some server side caching. Which is neat, and no doubt will achieve some speedups. But I don't know

It'd be helpful to know how much it costs without having to watch a video. You know, like an upfront price or something.
