Don't you think docker, dependencies, unit test frameworks, etc actually increase the need for ongoing maintenance as opposed to spitting out some C files or python scripts which last "forever"?

Unit testing, readability version control, documentation, etc are all engineering practices for the purpose of making ongoing development organized (especially for teams). Why would a researcher need to do this, when in most cases all that

Those with a lot of assets tend to be able to find yields to offset inflation. Stocks and real estate tend to adjust with inflation regardless of yield. Inflation mostly encourages lower/middle class people to consume every dollar ins

What things does it do besides update the schema, or run a custom python script?

For larger loads and computational complexity dotnet core is going to perform better and be safer. For simpler sites Laravel vs Django probably just comes down to which ecosystem you are most familiar with.

Sure, I guess that is a wrong assumption on my part. Perhaps a better way to word it, is: two factor auth only seems to protect you if all the other parts of site authentication are solid, which rarely seems to be true.

> multi-factor authentication enabled It sure seems like multi-factor auth isn't very helpful, when nearly all hacks have nothing to do with breaking credentials.

> current corporate dogma is to not host anything Do you mean that they prefer using managed services? Or do you mean that the services managed by their internal IT utlize AWS/etc for servers as opposed to on premises.

CS education typically includes OS theory, computer architecture, and compiler theory, all of which are directly relevant to the kernel. You may be right that EE is perhaps a better fit for this kind of interest.

Memory safety is not an absolute good which overrides all other things, like performance, portability, compilation, process, compile time etc. It is a problem that is well understood and the kernel developers have a lot of experience and to

I don't think that's what's being requested. It's ok if resources are dumped and left "as is". We just need more than we are getting, and it's not like they don't have that, it's just not as expe

I think the author of that comment was saying a paper alone is typically not sufficient. A researcher should summarize their work in a written paper AND provide resources, code, media, etc.

You pay a larger percentage of income tax your entire life for this "free" benefit. You could argue the costs and outcomes are better, but it's not free. In addition Harvard is a private institution and not a government schoo

All standard libraries get conveniences such as these built upon them. That is not the role of a standard lib, which is to provide a basic level of OS compatibly and some commonly useful data structures and utilities. The cost of standardiz

Maximizing total number of goods is not the same as maximizing goods per dollar spent. You want 1 smart car, and you want to pay as little for it as they will let you.

> Populism has always, from day one, all the way back in Ancient Greece, been a threat to democracy. In Plato's republic democracy is a result of populism and is seen as one of the lowest forms of government.
