A typewriter is an optional tool for producing a written work. With programming the computer is a necessary object required for converting the intentions of a programmer into both information about the world and actions within it. I think i

It's a bit misleading to call this faster than A* since it is still using A* under the hood. Most optimizations to path finding with A* involve changing the world representation somehow. Most do not use a simple grid, with navigation m

This article seems to suggest that Go was designed as a language for large teams. Firstly it was designed as an research project and secondly I don't think it does work for large teams. The simple type system and lack of genetics makes

My understanding was that the development manager in the taup blazer was an IT consultant brought in to run the project making it a little easier for that person to disappear to the next gig no matter how disastrous the project turned out.

That's cool. I once made a Common Lisp macro that iterated and gave you the pred and succ of each list element, but it was a lot more work than this. Although I think implementing each_cons was most of the work.

Compactness is more of a side effect and can be a detrimental one. Personally I find that this kind of code is more declarative of intent than the more imperative for loop. By using particular functional tools for the job you're avoidi

I've been using emacs for a long time. When I duplicate a line I don't even know that I'm following the steps you mention, I just do it on autopilot. What I like most about emacs though is that I rarely have to do repetitive

I would suspect that most people don't come close to using all the ram in their computer in normal use. Whether they use adblock or not will not have any noticeable affect on the computer performance apart from the blocking of ads.

This article is very low on content yet appeals to those who really want an excuse not to learn something. "Oh, I don't need to feel bad about that time I gave up on learning Vim because of that random guy on the internet." P

Good speech. The numerous errors in transcription took a little away from it, especially given the first message about doing simple tasks well. A University should have higher standards on their site.

I think stackoverflow is working just fine, it's just weird. For example a question I posted recently I got a great answer in minute or so, as well as grumpy comments and closed. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/

Yes, I was thinking along similar lines. If your coding standard strictly prevents known dangerous habits (and it should be for security related code). Insisting on putting all if body statements in braces would have prevented the Apple bug

Question: with a stolen private key don't you still have the problem that is has the host name in it? So to truly spoof a browser you need to compromise the domain and serve a site from within it?

Well put. I find comments of the nature "I know a guy who just cut down on his drinking and now he's fine" the most dangerous. Sure, some drinkers can do that but there are many more who cannot safely do so.
