AWS doesn't do everything for you and probably never will because people have different needs. What is dying is the more manual side of ops. Ops guys that aren't comfortable writing a bit of code are in danger of falling behind.

That's a fair point :) Fannie Mae and Circuit City being among them. The question is did they abandon the principles described in the book or die due to unforeseeable circumstances?

I think it's a comforting thought that people only succeed because of exceptional luck but that doesn't make it true. Worship is a problem, but methodical research of the sort that went into "Good to Great" is not.

I don't think I saw it as an attempt to be original or funny. It's more interesting and educational in that it shows how to do build up a simple program from the very limited operations of lands calculus.

Lisp languages are not even functional programming languages, they're mostly general purpose. Lisps are interesting for other reasons such as the s-expression syntax being similar to the AST, lists and other data structures as first cl

Is the map dynamic as in it changes in an unpredictable way all the time? If that's the case the best you can do maybe to path find in the static parts then try your best to follow the path while avoiding things nearby. If the map pred

Not to take anything away from the work but I think the title is misleading. A* is an optimal algorithm for graph search so you cannot make it 100x faster. What this does is make path finding faster by changing the structure of the graph.

Anything that you can easily specify and describe in detail can be automated. In practise the world is filled with computers that need programming to cope with ever changing chaotic actions of our users. Personally I'm long on software

Some experience to share: I studied Scala and FP on the side before jumping to a team that was using it in production. Most of the engineers on the team have an enthusiasm to learn about and use fp. Bi-weekly we have a book club where we ta

Or just use IntelliJ and you can reload classes while your program is running if you want. Sbt is a very powerful tool but it's not written with readability for new users in mind.

Yeah there was no floating point for a while on consoles. I remember spending a week or two making a renderer that subdivided geometry so the textures would tear less. It was more expensive so had to be done based on view distance.

"baroquesque abomination" is a very colourful but somewhat unfair description of Scala. I've been using it in production for a few years now and I find it can be quite pretty if you're careful, and is quite readable once
