Try being in 200+ rooms / spaces and using Element Web on an i7-2640M Hint: It's not a fun experience.

I would advise against running Alpine on a Raspberry Pi (Zero) Alpine is great for servers or Docker containers, but once you start installing it on barely supported hardware you'll notice the pain.

Such an entrant exists. It's called Libreboot.

Doesn't this go out of the windows with IPv6?

I'm just wondering how Reddit managed to do that. Do VPN companies have to register their endpoints in some kind of a VPN database so that Reddit can flag them as IP addresses coming from VPN companies? How otherwise would Reddit know

I've stumbled across this post by an ex-COBOL admin YouTube creator I've been following after wondering why she wasn't active on Mastodon. Definitely some interesting and nuanced points being made there. She also previously d

Once can at least archive Medium and Substack pages on the Wayback machine. They're also generally fine when viewed without JS. Mastodon pages? Not so much.

If you're installing packages anyway, then why not just write in Python, Go, or any other languages which have relatively less footguns and have more features? I'm sure at least some of those packages are also available on FreeBSD

Doesn't it say it right there in the first paragraph? > And anonymous payments in cryptocurrencies to wallets operated by providers (hosted wallets) will be prohibited even for minimum amounts without a threshold. Doesn't this

99% of the users you're talking about won't see any benefit in switching to this alternative from Wikipedia anyway, so what's your point?

I was going to say you'd also lose out on the Libreboot compatibility, but apparently X201 support was urgently removed from LB: https://libreboot.org/news/x201.html

I archive (in multiple places, including locally) all of the threads that I add as sources to my personal knowledge base. I'm sorry, but shared knowledge and wisdom I can refer to in the future is more important than your "protest

I can see the posts just fine (albeit with JS enabled), but not the replies and subsequent conversations. Assuming you were referring to the latter, then yes I'd agree with you.

Not only is JS required, but for some reason those Mastodon pages can't be (easily?) archived in https://web.archive.org/ , whereas Twitter pages can.

If lurking Twitter / X works only with JS enabled, and if the same applies to Mastodon as well, then (strictly speaking in reading / lurking ability) what would be the difference between those two other than perhaps the size of to

Have you also recently noticed that Mastodon sites are not being archived properly by https://web.archive.org/ ? It doesn't display any content when viewing the archive. I wonder why that is.
