I suspect the confusion will only affect people that don't need the specific implementations... People that want Closure for their JS goodness will know which it is, similarly for Clojure and Clozure lisps. And I generally search out new to

Just signed in with my google apps account - a very nice touch. Then I tried Writer, and got the following message at the top of the page in a nice red message box: Zoho Writer is not supported yet in Chrome Please switch to IE 6.0+ o

Taking this idea further, one could add multiple orthogonal axes (eg sweetness, bitterness, after-taste etc). Then you could rate each tea against others on each axis - either in a star-slider, scatter plot or on several individual sliders.

I believe the trampoline function / special form can do the mutual tail-call in clojure ( http://clojure.org/api#toc569 ) : trampoline can be used to convert algorithms requiring mutual recursion without stack consumption. but I

[offtopic-ish] This is the first decent short summary of twitter that I fully get. I haven't "bought in to it" yet, due to my free time being fairly limited, and to me it doesn't seem to add much value compared to the time I think i need

I was under the impression that the main reason to choose GPL was that you (the developer) believed in having your code under that licence. If you choose to change that position, that should be entirely up to you. The reason that this is

A while ago there was some discussion about some custom OS designs, I remember one with a relatively modern looking gui that fitted on a 1.44MB disk - http://www.menuetos.net/ Wonder if that could be fitted with a scheme version to get so

Another thing that (IMO) is a main cause of the slowdown is the sheer scope of possibilities available on general low-cost hardware these days. In earlier times you had to work hard to make your code do all the work in a given space. This m

However, this is prone to being truncated by sites / software that only allows or uses the first 8 characters... Another method that I have used in the past is leet-speak ( oh look at me, aren't I cool - cough, cough), so I just used my na

To clarify my "how hard" sentiment - I had in mind that the normal sort function becomes a "function selector" that grabs the user's chosen sort function from their profile, then applies that to the comments. The difficulty in all this woul

Seems like a lot of people have their own specific ideas to how they may want comments sorted / listed. How hard would it be to allow people to implement their own version of the ranking function and then have the comments passed through th

Just as an alternative idea - why not colour the score to the background colour - that way it is effectively invisible, yet can still be seen by highlighting the heading. Although that being said, I tend to gloss over the scores anyway for

Of course the counter-argument to this is that it can teach students more real-world methodology - ie don't re-invent the wheel - instead try to find alternative sources where the same problem has already been solved. I n practice (my exper

Worst thing for me (and I think quite a few people) is the misplaced apostrophe. We have a big sign just outside the town here that has "Special's" in big bold writing - now I can't even take the store seriously....

This seems like a very good idea in terms of controlling spikes in comments - but you have to question whether this is the (main) cause of the degradation. If limiting new accounts seems like the best solution, it should be done clearly and
