Absolutely, and industries like medical devices and aviation have extremely strict regulation and procedures regarding the testing of software. The article not mentioning any of those made me conclude that author is referring to regular sof

1. The premise that college teaches you how to build software in industry is a pretty wild claim. 2. Is this article from the 90s where we ship software on CDs or floppy disks? In today's world where the concept of a "release"

It already takes me 45 minutes of my time to get a hold of a support person of my own carrier and I'm a paying customer. I commend the effort, but getting a human to answer a support hotline call in order to report a spammer number is

True, but library authors shouldn't work around those bugs. It just creates a whole lot of unnecessary legacy code in the wrong places.

Why would this be specific to the SDK? If the code is Rust without any native libraries being linked, WASM should work out of the box.

The continuation of fossil fuel emissions and the removal of CO2 from the atmosphere don't have to be tied together. Of course the package of these two combined is a scam. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't scale up direct a

Agreed. I haven't heard of companies outside tech that put the same amount of efforts into DEI. It's not only sham programs either, many companies are putting diversity above performance when it comes to hiring/promotions (no

How many requests per second are you talking about roughly? One major problem we face is that downstream services also have performance problems and have multi second response times. While waiting for the response, a whole rails worker is s

Ruby/Rails is not great for efficiently transforming megabyte sized blocks of JSON into differently structured megabyte sized blocks of JSON, just to give you one example. Golang/Rust/Java is better suited to that. Other use

Totally, Rails is a great tool. So is my gunsmith hammer. I can like it for what it does without arguing it's the best thing in the world for cutting wood or joining two pieces of metal together.

I never said that some other stack wouldn't have problems. My point was that Rails is great at some problems and awful at others. No idea how this can be controversial at all. My impression seems to be that there is a group of fanboys

This is the point I wanted to make. Rails is great for some problems, not great at others. I can tell you for example that it's not great at transforming 2MB of JSON into a differently structured 2MB of JSON.

Your model of companies using Rails with 1000s of engineers is almost comically naive. Look at what Shopify and Github have to do to make Rails work for them. Also look at the non Ruby code engineers there are writing and ask yourself why t

These two have lots of backend code that's not Ruby. Rails is great at what it does and it's not optimal for many other use cases.

Rails does everything. You can build a stateless API gateway with it. Is it great for that particular use case? No. Your question about frameworks with similar capabilities is pointless because my point was that there are use cases where th

Welcome to the 2010s? Browsers have had 3D features for a decade, on top of 2D rendering pipelines running on GPUs. This is why you can browse the web in your phone without your battery only lasting 15 minutes.

I think you are wrong, this is not how TLS works. In order to man-in-the-middle you, your ISP would have you install a certificate that makes their fake certificates for services (ie google.com) trusted on your devices.
