In Lisp the "catch" part could be "handler-bind", which could invoke a restart (skip element, or use-value). This requires the called function to establish a restart, but the good news is that it removes the burden of t

That's trivially possible in the Go version because you paid the cost of adding explicit error handling upfront. It takes more effort to wrap a handler for a specific exception because there was no need originally to write a handler in

I hope so, because it is more subject to accidental copy-paste bugs.

You can deactivate GC momentarily and reclaim memory when you want (end of frame, every ten frames, ...). Most of the time you can manage to write your code to minimize allocation, or make sure memory is allocated on the stack. Depending on

It is easier to perform "X" inside the JVM instead of doing "X" in the JVM and providing a client/server protocol to do it from anywhere. The drawback is that you can't plug another client.

Related: Morris Traversal (no parent link required). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_traversal#Morris_in-order... Trying to reimplement it without looking at the solution is fun.

Ada and Pascal are not really research languages, though. But still, there are improvements taken from research, see Ada 2012 contracts for example.

Yes, because some purely functional approaches cannot beat imperative ones when it comes to resource usage.

At the lowest levels, the pattern can be reversed: you provide a nice functional shell around a little bit of imperative core (e.g. implementing "map" with a loop).

Talking about CL, all the things that are done with syntax objects are done with environments (`&environment`). Type declarations, lexical bindings, etc. You can even process the same code in two different environments if this is useful

An article that would title "Lisp beyond Clojure" would indeed talk about the Lisp family of languages. What is a very bad in that title is that it focuses on Racket, just as if the title was: "Racket - this is how Lisp look
