Really, such as? The article doesn't present many of those and I doubt there are. All I am saying is it sounds boring as hell, stoned or not.

I don't argue for a mind-numbing office life. I argue that being stoned 24/7 doesn't fit how _I_ would spend my time if I were (f)unemployed _by choice_. I would backpack, ski, travel, hack, learn new trades, build things, etc. Maybe some o

Sounds like fun for about 1-2 weeks, and then it would be a sucky life. Gotta have mental stimulation sometime.

Seriously, i dont know what everyone is getting worked up about. Some wannabe smarty pants said something mean on the internets. How is that different than any other day? Steve Klabnik: what exactly is his claim to fame [2]? Lets all mock h

So, how many requests / second is your load balancer receiving from outside?

I'm so confused. Some diagramming app no one has heard of has to scale to 'exponential' growth and figure out: * [not] loading a lot of session data on every request * storing data across shards * parallel processing * a services approach W

"I'm not convinced that VC-istan has any real edge over the rest of the business world. It's just better at marketing itself." It's going to be funny when everyone starts figuring that out!

Well, this morning was spent shredding powder in the mountains. This afternoon I am coding. Why wouldn't everyone demand to live where they want? Revolt and make these companies wake up & realize that remote workers produce equal or b

How about honoring the RFC's as a first comparison as to capabilities. Example: nginx doesn't even honor Vary headers: http://trac.nginx.org/nginx/ticket/118

Why doesn't everyone try Apache Traffic Server with its LUA plugin which has way better performance and many more capabilities?

See, the thing is: creating an invoice is an 'accounting' event that needs to be thought out a bit. Like a double entry general ledger, receiving payments, proper audit trails, the inability to modify an invoice after 'posting' it, batches,

I remember writing invoicing systems like this. Then I realized I probably shouldn't reinvent the wheel or break GAAP. :/

I can't stand the 'portability nightmare' comment/sentiment from ORM (ab)users. How often do you swap out your DBMS from MySQL to Oracle to Postgres? Writing SQL should not be anathema.

That's fine, but are you asking your frontend devs to solve Google's latency woes as a normal part of their interview?

Typical Google waste-of-probably-a-decent-engineer. A javascript coder getting asked sorting algorithm questions and Big-Oh notation. What a waste of time. Google just doesn't get it. I know all you fanboys out there will say "you need to k
