Back in the 1980s when text adventure games were popular I was thinking of writing a game so I started by writing a compiler for my own game language. I never completed the game and I probably had more fun developing the language than the

But brexit isn't going to make life any better for those areas. Most likely it will be worse as the country as a whole will be probably poorer and less able to support deprived areas. But I expect they will still put the blame for th

I'm one of that small number in the UK who drives an automatic. I used to drive a manual but more than 10 years ago switched to an automatic and I wouldn't want to switch back. To me driving is about getting from A to B with the

I'd probably use the FM radio in my phone more if it could receive BBC Radio 6Music but that channel is only available on DAB. I'm not aware of any phones with DAB radios.

I like gadgets as much as anyone but I'm still struggling to find a use case for a smart watch. My preferred mode of exercise is cycling and I already have a GPS bike computer & HRM. I know I could see notifications from my phone

Exactly. I would rather not know the political opinions of many of my friends as Often we would disagree and it wouldn't be a fruitful discussion.

This seems fairly obvious but it's good to have it confirmed as I'm 60 now. I usually cycle about 100 miles a week and I'm glad I'm not wasting my time!

I do the same. I was finding Chrome slow and bloated for general use so I switched back to Firefox but I still use Chrome for some Google sites.

I used to use a VT52 and TECO, later replaced by a VT100. The smooth scrolling seemed impressive at the time. Not long after that I moved into embedded software and wrote firmware to emulate these terminals, mostly in Z80 assembler.

I've never got on with Twitter either. Most people I am interested in are on Facebook if they use any social media. Twitter is just boring stuff.

I'm happy working as a programmer, I wouldn't have done it for the past 35 years if I didn't like it.

I also agree about Tolkien. back in the 1970s I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy and I was a big fan of Moorcock. I forced myself to read Lord of the Rings but it was difficult! I've subsequently watched some of the films but my opi

I remember playing a game very similar to paintball back in the 1970s. One of the other participants has written about it on her blog: http://www.chicagonow.com/soapbox-momma/2014/06/my-friends-a...

I make cider using wild yeast. It's always worked fine so far. I think this is fairly common with small-scale cider making in the UK. I do add some sulphite to the juice (amount depends on pH) to discourage the undesirable micro-org
