Pilot wave formulations of QM and graph based or otherwise discrete theories of space are two very different things. The reasons to like the latter are similar to the reasons to dislike the former. At a large scale physics looks continuous,

The universe does not seem to care all that much about what we find ontologically tractable. Besides quantum mechanics, consider relativity.

Indeed you don't need to know much vector calculus for machine learning. Stokes theorem and the like are mainly relevant for physics, but the Jacobian and Hessian are good to know.

It is very hard to complete a course without having the prerequisites. If you took some courses in math and Python you would probably be able to pass it with much more ease.

Do you have a link to a worked out example that is made much easier by this?

Thanks for the link, that cleared up a confusion that I've had for a while. I've read a lot of contradictory things about fractal trees, but apparently they changed the data structure from a COLA to a B-epsilon tree at some point

Why should person X decide what person Y is allowed to read? Just improve blocking, so that Y can decide what Y wants to read. I don't need big daddy to decide what would be good for me to read and what I better not read.

B-epsilon trees are a modification of B-trees that support much higher write throughput. It is done by adding a buffer to each node in the tree so that you don't need to travel all the way down the tree every time. When a buffer is ful

Of course, but compared to how chess algorithms work it remains far more mysterious how exactly that produces an english description of a grid of pixel values.

A chess computer isn't magic because you know that it is basically searching the game tree very fast with some heuristics. Neural networks are not like that. You know that it's a network of activation functions, but how that solve

He/she said a whole rack of servers. I actually took 30 servers of 2TB each and rounded up to 100. With 12TB per server it will already be over that.

In practice micro services mean that you turn a function or method call into a network request. This doesn't really limit communication bottlenecks. It is often more difficult to argee on a network interface than on a simple functi

Actually performance is exponential without memoization, so usually some amount of memoization is essential, but memoizing more rules usually does not help.

I don't agree that the Donald Trump subreddit is the heart of the problem. It's a symptom of the problem. I don't care what goes on in that subreddit. Let them have their echo chamber. The problem is huge default subreddits t

One only has to look at that twitter thread to see what kind of antifa they are endorsing: > we have an "antifa" movement in France (reacting to our rising far right), and they're often just as violent :-( reply: > yup,

It's what we call it in Dutch. Singular: visum, plural: visa. It does indeed come from Latin. I didn't know that it is different in English.

The problem with reddit isn't the admins, but that people who have managed to become moderators of prominent subreddits censor posts and thousands of rather innocent comments. For example the Orlando terrorist attack was censored from

That's not how it goes in practice. The fact that the people in that twitter thread endorse antifa shows that they are either ignorant of what antifa actually is (as opposed to what it claims to be), or they endorse an organisation tha

All this does is provide random and selective justice for those who can pay the bribe. What about the visum expiring the day before you leave? Two days? The law has to draw a line somewhere. It is the obligation of the person to stay clear

These data structures are good for main memory. I've implemented in-memory B-trees in C#, and they were 2x to 5x faster than .NET's built-in sorted maps. The built-in sorted maps also used 3x as much memory. Surprisingly, B-tree
