This looks like desperation because they simultaneously acknowledge the competitor which is normally a big no-no? It's like Mark Penn's Scroogled campaign all over again.

Yes! I'm not sure of your preferred editor but for Sublime Text, Visual Studio Code, IntelliJ IDEA there is the Alabaster theme. You can read up more on its "manifesto" here. Variants to cover the rest besides the light theme

Yes, Cascadia is a bit quirky but pretty nice. Currently I’m on JetBrains Mono which I find works great for me in terms of legibility. I love the slightly increased letter height and use it at 11 pt on a 27” display in Visual Studio. It rem

I've thought about the same. I rely on Google too much. But "too much" is really only e-mail and cloud storage (Google Drive) for me. I only rely on cloud hosting for photos for a select few albums I intentionally want to sha

Google already acts upon DMCA requests, delisting sites if requested. They add a small note to the end of their results to inform you if the page should normally have had more search hits. So this raises so many questions. Has _no party_ re

Developers trying out their web servers should probably add another zero for port 50000 and now they'd suddenly get an IANA compliant one. I'm not sure how this came to be to be honest. This is a very old system, but yet we still

This was honestly what crossed my mind as I read that article as well. They're basically asking for Crystal and it's already done. Static type checks, performance, fibers and channels. As a bonus things like compile time null ch

I also find ASCII image formats like PBM and XPM amusing. Simple images viewable in a mere text editor as a budget option. :D

It’s unfortunate they spent time to get AVIF implemented right before JPEG XL. JXL is a more complete image format rather than a keyframe of AV1 video. Some media format cruft is amounting in web browsers but JXL of all things should ironic

WPF has no such concept. Even if you don’t use a library for this, it’ll then just use the built in style after detecting your OS version and adapting to that. But it does this by pulling out hard coded resources shipping with WPF. If you w

This, combined with linker stripping below even assembly level for smaller static binaries. .NET 7 will work on NativeAOT for instantaneous startup of especially smaller apps, but I think they’ve already optimized JIT warmups or something —

Yes, I want something that looks and feels like Qt (I simply like the design language) with the Qt app ecosystem, but which sheds a metric ton of stuff compared to KDE that only serves to make me endlessly tinker with it.

These are upsides with FPGA emulation. Downside is that verilog devs are scarce and developing these cores are hard, so emulation quality sometimes suffer as a result. But I guess this is only a problem depending on the systems Analogue is

This looks interesting! I’ve long wished for a more mature MiSTer system that feels like a complete retro console/system/computer. There ARE already many options there but involves 3D printed parts, soldering, or more. If I could

I’d consider it at €400 (i.e. above a full MiSTer setup price) if it was a well crafted case like this but an Amiga 1200 equivalent with a C64 mode and SD card slot as “floppy”. Something more pragmatic. This one instead reminds me of those

I don’t see anything wrong done here by Phys.org. It’s the world’s most sensitive dark matter detector so I’m happy they’re reporting on its findings. This isn’t some tabloid-level news but making its rounds at universities.

There’s been such a debate over this now that I don’t know why Apple are still trying? It’s not even their job to catch child porn. There are many far-reaching cooperations like at Interpol and Europol that successfully bust child porn grou
