As someone who has worked with Visual Studio and integration APIs for a long time, a port of VS across platforms would be a huge undertaking. A rewrite, essentially. Visual Studio is heavily tied to WPF (Windows-only) presentation framework

There are two sides to it: yes, new frameworks and new stuff to learn, and that can be overwhelming. On the other hand, rapid evolution leads to better ideas, keeps your mind fresh as your learning never ceases, and an opportunity to improv

That is precisely what TypeScript has implemented: ES6 string templates. Remember, TypeScript is JavaScript + optional types. One nice thing about the template strings in TypeScript is you can use those and still compile to ES3/ES5 for

As a former C# guy who moved to the web, I can say with confidence this is true: TypeScript is a great language for building great web apps. My "Show HN" submission yesterday[0], the web app for helping homeless youth find beds an

Thanks for the feedback. We actually implemented this at first: when searching for beds, you could search for beds reserved for transgender and gay kids. Likewise, shelters could mark beds as beds alloted for gay youth or transgender youth.

Thank you! Super encouraging to hear the feedback. Thanks for the offer for time on design and UX. It's ultimately up to the shelter network to continue with the next version of this app. I've got your email from your profile; I&#

Wow - first, thanks for the awesome feedback. I'll relay this information to the shelters who organized this. As far as replicating this in other states, I'd personally love that! I will speak with the organizers. Currently, it&#x

Yeah, HTML5 geolocation is used when you search for shelters near you. (Obviously, the target audience is homeless youth.) If you reject the geolocation prompt, the site still works fine; we just don't order the results by nearest loca

We did a lot of testing with actual homeless youth in Minnesota. Turns out, most homeless youth have a phone with a web browser.

I can't speak for all religions, but the Judeo-Christian tradition has always believed God is beyond measure. Some examples are from the Jewish/Christian Bible[0]: "Who has measured the Spirit of the Lord? Who has been his co

Religion speaks of something beyond measure, and this is a reason some perceive religion as unscientific. Atheism too speaks of something that can't be measured: the certain non-existence of the thing every human culture has sensed, lo

I'm a religious guy who loves science and technology, and I greatly appreciated this article. Men of faith need not be anti-science, indeed, many great men of science were men of faith. And not by an incidental flaw in their minds, as

I like the end of the article. "Use three equals unless you fully understand the conversions that take place for two-equals." Or better said, "Always use 3 equals unless you have a good reason to use 2."

Definitely like the idea of a WPF designed with modern features in mind. Observables instead of events. Making use of generics to reduce the huge list of event args and delegate types. Async baked in.

One major difference is the null checking. From what it looks like, they've added an additional type, "maybe", that represents a possibly-null object. TypeScript doesn't have that concept, although it's been suggest

That was me. Yes, Angular 1.x is clearly superior to Durandal 2.x. That said, I'm happy with the news that Durandal will see a vNext. I believe Rob will make it into what Angular 2.0 should have been.
