Languages evolve, they're living things. Isolation creates new languages, that why Europe has a gazillion of them, people of different valleys developed different languages, on the other hand communication mixes them and blends them, f

Stopping it's not a hopeless gesture, it's dangerous as fuck. If you stop research but all your adversaries don't, you're left behind. Let's assume that all western societies stop, but let's say, China doesn&#x

Stopping now would be extremely dangerous and borderline stupid. If you stop now, you're just left behind, because there's no way everyone will stop. At this point the only logical course of action in an adversarial situation is t

Well you could be efficient with your code so it doesn't waste CPU cycles, since CPU cycles == Energy, and if your algorithms use less energy, in all likelihood you'll emit less CO2. Specially if they're widely deployed.

If you care, just don't waste CPU cycles if possible. Efficient code is green code in the sense that it's more likely not to waste energy. Things like bitcoin with their proof of work algorithms, are borderline immoral. Just burni

Compilers are like puzzles to be solved. They are so deeply coupled internally and so grounded in pure logic that in many cases, features of the languages implement themselves as the logical consequence of the way the compiler it's con

I hate the 2FA story, they shouldn't let you enable it unless you enroll at least two different factors. One primary and one for recovery. The only case where it should be fine to have a single second factor is with your employer, wher

Why the need to bring it under control? Control from what? It's not the AI that's the issue, it's the use of it that's the problem. The law shouldn't focus on the AI, for example: >The regulation, proposed by the

That's a type of risk too. I couldn't go over all the weird ways it can go wrong in a comment (probably not even in a book), so I used "risk" as the catch-all umbrella, but yes, architectural bugs are a lot harder to fix

The article does the setup but fails to deliver. Tech debt, if properly managed, may be strategically advantageous. For example, in an early startup, you make a decision that will be somewhat expensive to pay for later, but now, doing it &q

First couple of months your job is making sure the mom doesn't crash and burn under the stress of a newborn. Breastfeeding is exhausting and the emotional load of the newborn plus the massive hormone shifts is no walk in the park.
