Don't sweat it; the Defederation radicals are far fewer in number than the rest. Our splinter network will exist but be a non-factor to those who want "reach".

There is a pact to instantly defederate, many have already preemptively blocked their domains. I deleted my account this morning, with a backup natch - nice thing about Mastodon, I can start up exactly where I left off, including whatever f

I have been a rather happy user the last few months but the last couple of weeks it's turned pretty narsty; downloaded my data and turned off my main instance account, and I'm waiting for the schism to happen before I go back in.

He could defederate from you, but one for his instance. If you haven't pissed off the whole federation and you backed up your data (another thing you can do on mastodon) you'll be fine, and keep all your followers too.

I've been arguing with Twitter emigres who seem to think that the UX on masto sucks. I would say that Twitter is an automatic transmission, mastodon is a standard.

We're just mutual randos, but let's see where we're at in two years. I think that a different set of priorities will have begun to dominate things by then.

It's debatable which SV debacle is the worst, but Airbnb and Uber are probably the most baldly extractive examples; they had no long-term strategy beyond grabbing a stake in the lawlessness and attempting to own that segment somehow, f

No capitalist platform will ever not do these things Reddit is doing. The desire for ease of use and the desire for quality are not compatible. When I was a lad, my family always made sure I had good shoes. Not million dollar Jordans or any

I own with no shame at all that having joined a Federation which has a Ferengi-like enemy currently making plans to invade, it's just delightful. I am so up for this fight, because this MOREEYEBALLSFASTER mentality is like a set of hor

So far I have not seen a nuanced take on this yet. I wonder if Doctorow will write about it. Lots of talk about government overreach, zero talk about the games Facebook has been playing with media, which have been nasty and colonial. The go

Statements like this stem from the fundamental assumption that rational order will be restored and we will eventually continue to live in a world that trends towards less authoritarianism rather than more. In the overall scheme of history,

This is gonna be really funny when Meta launches Threads. Mastodon is already in a froth over whether we absolutely without question block all Meta instances from the Federation, or whether we should leave the door open for known bad actors

The buffoons are definitely talking about a scary beast that's easy to imagine, because we've been watching it in Terminator movies for forty years. But this is not that beast. The beast here is humanity, and capitalism, by which
