I have an odd feeling that I've commented about this one before. Maybe this article cycles back around to HN every year or two? There are large populations of users who are forced to use IE6. Still. In 2012. They are not allowed to

Sure, if you're comfortable with a website that will "pretty much work" for a decently-sized chunk (YMMV) of your users. If you'd rather have it "definitely work" for those users, then test it.

"Doing them a disservice" is by definition not kind , I think. Note that the phrase isn't "you can never be too flattering." This interpretation does make it a very vague instruction ("okay, so what's the 'kind' thing to say when someone s

Don't think of "people" as a static entity; that's the problem. HN does have something of an "eternal September" effect that everyone has to deal with, permanently. There's a constant influx of new people, many of whom will learn to cont

Both, I imagine. Though Stripe isn't yet a viable competitor for lots of businesses, because they haven't sorted out the international thing at all yet, but they're working on that (as PayPal well knows).

That's exactly what I'm saying -- that may well be the case (and that would be a coding error), or maybe they coded some handling; we can't tell from the results (varyingly-colored pixels in the displayed result).
