There's something of a conflict between "The download attribute is supported in Chrome 14+ and Firefox 20+" and "but I think server-side solutions to front-end problems should be avoided whenever possible." The client-side solution sounds n

That's the issue. Who has the problem this is solving? Last week I needed a new copy of my house keys. The next day I was going out to lunch and noticed there was a bicycle shop that copied keys down the street. I said "I'll meet you ins

Have you never tried teaching yourself a new skill using online resources? Assuming you have (hasn't everyone, nowadays? Even just looking up recipes counts...) -- now think about how you'd pick up the same info, without the internet. W

This was my take, too -- there are lots of players, many of them have strong incentives that are misaligned with many patients' priorities, and for a patient and their caregivers to even understand what decisions will help them have the e

You're overstating this, I think. How much would a downvoting HN account be worth, really? Sure, a spammer could sneak in a few messages at a more visible level, or presumably down-vote their competitors, but the suddenly-abusive account wo

I didn't realize changing the color of the top bar was a karma-sensitive bonus -- when I first heard about it, I checked and it was already in my profile. So: it's not for super-high karma users only! I got comment downvoting at 500 karma,

Yup; this is a "great" idea that falls apart when you think about it a bit. The artist knows perfectly well what the intention is, and which group is which. ALSO, the results are going to be skewed by standard rules of politeness -- even gi

Is it really easier to write? Every note has to have a line that extends its full rhythmic value past the notehead -- you can't just write 10 circles to say "this big chord fills the whole measure". Every accidental must be marked on the n

I like the idea of working to make music notation better -- it's certainly not flawless -- but I'd strongly discourage music teachers from using this system with any actual music students. I'd much rather see methods of improving the readab

The average US musician knows the C/D/E, and possibly moveable Do/Re/Mi (where Do is the tonic of whatever major key you're singing in). The fixed Do system isn't even much covered in basic college-level music theory in the US (to my reco

If you're choosing between "rewrite this guitar music to transpose so there aren't crazy ledger lines" vs. "rewrite this guitar music into a radical new notation system", I think I'd go with the first choice. Standard notation for guitar mu
