Her anecdote doesn't support her case. It seems clear that the guy was taking out his post-breakup frustrations on Ms. Vargas-Cooper. He may normally be a decent, caring person who just tried to get back in the dating pool too soon. Puni

Ask someone who works at a bank what mainframe support from IBM costs. Over $1,000,000 per year is not uncommon. Also, I'm fairly sure this $15,000 is intended to be in support of an internal team of sys admins, not in place of them.

Things that I actually heard from fellow students when I went to college over a decade ago: "The most important thing is to get a degree, I don't worry about what major I'm going to choose." "I want to make the big money so I'm going to maj

Yeah, it's funny that the idea of a lifestyle business is alien to Andrew. He probably interacts with hundreds of lifestyle businesses. Nobody opens a Subway or a Radio Shack with the idea that they'll sell it for $100 billion. They just

The dead-end streets in my neighborhood are physically narrower, too, probably for the same reason. AS a side effect, though, it gets hard for delivery trucks and snow plows to turn around and get back on the main road..

I'm wondering the same thing. Liebermann probably knows too. People say this a lot about politicians and I wonder how true it is. Lieberman in particular has never shown himself to be particularly smart. He mostly repeats the convention

Somebody has to own the stuff you're renting. If I'm a renter I'm just passing along the responsibility to someone else. If the vast majority of us are renters rather than owners, who has incentive to do any maintenance or improvement?

Perhaps the real problem is that Friedman's money comes from "nowhere" so to speak. He doesn't produce any physical goods and his wife's fortune comes from the trading and management acumen of her father. He can't understand a world where

A little over a decade ago, my company used a local charter company when Northwest's pilots went on strike. We were able to get a five-seat turboprop with two pilots for $2000 for 70 minute flight (about 400 miles.) A full-fare ticket on

You're right to a point. The big benefit to working a regular job is that there's a whole infrastructure of day care, preschool, sports, music lessons, etc. built around your schedule. In a start up or even a job with odd hours this infra

I agree that arbitrary code coverage goals are foolish, but there's a huge benefit that we seem to be glossing over. A good suite of automated tests can double or triple the productivity of a new team member. Whenever I join a project, I
