I like the visual style and even the home-screen but I am not sold on Metro actually being a good UI toolkit for applications. It may just be the immaturity of the platform at this point. It's just not even in the same ballpark of flexibili

What about third party support? Given how few WP7 devices were sold I could see support being dropped very quickly. That would be my biggest concern

Same here. I was planning to buy a 710 just to keep up with WP. Seems pointless now.

2012 is the year third party OEMs start to go extinct. First (and always) Apple, now Microsoft, soon Google/Motorola. There may be some niche markets left over for third party OEMs but otherwise I think they're done. No wonder HP wanted out

Upgrade-by-replacement. In 2 years you'll still be able to sell this machine for about 70% of its original price. From there you can buy the latest & greatest model at basically a 70% discount. Factor in the price of the parts you would

I've been using the MacBook Air since 2008 which shares many of the same design choices. It hasn't been an issue at all. The resale value of Apple computers has to be considered too. If I can resell my old machine for 50-60% of it's origina

As a user it doesn't leave me in the dark. I look at the store 'shelf' and select what I want. I'm about as interested in the behind the scenes of the App Store as I would be about how my local grocery store shelves are stocked. I'm sure it

I like Apple's approach. For example a transit authority could have an application that for example included real-time GPS tracking of buses, they could have options in the app to buy passes, request stops, etc, etc. Within the Google Map's

You can now have a different signature for each email account on your iOS device, WOW I don't think this is possible with the stock ICS IMAP/POP mail app. It doesn't even have mali threading?

Good reasons but I wonder is the current/new generation 12-core Mac Pro inadequate for this? It could be better but it still seems to serve its purpose.

The iPad 1 has the same 256MB of RAM but it has to allocate more than double the amount of space towards VRAM than a 3GS. Also in general iPad applications have a larger memory footprint than iPhone applications. Those two factors combined

On the flip side both the iPhone and iPad have amazing customer satisfaction numbers so we can probably conclude that most iOS users like things the way they are. Why would Apple want to change it up too much? If live tiles or better task m

A 12-core Mac Pro still offers significantly more processing power than a quad-core Ivy Bridge i7. So the Mac Pro still serves its purpose.

A step backwards in functionality is never a good thing but I do like Apple's approach of saying that third party developers can do a better job for some parts of mapping. The kitchen sink approach of trying to cram everything possible into

Both companies are developing their platforms based on how consumers are actually using the devices so it's natural they are going to follow the same basic trajectory since most people use both types of devices the same way.

Seagate has a $99 ThunderBolt dock available but figure an extra $50 for a cable to go with it. It's designed for their GoFlex enclosures but I think it works fine with a bare drive too.

$30 for the ThunderBolt GigE adapter. It's possible people will lose them but you do have to physically disconnect the RJ45 from it before you can leave (unless you have a very long cable) so it's not a big problem really. Easier to lose yo

iOS is a mature platform at this point. Apple doesn't usually shuffle things around or make huge changes just to say they did it. It has to fix a specific problem or add enough functionality to justify increasing complexity. Some significan

I could see a huge number of people sitting at the Windows 8 login screen with no clue how to click and drag to login. A simple floating tool tip ala 'slide to unlock' would help a lot.

I'm not a fan of huge displays but 4" is actually pretty tame by today's standards. Apple may have come up with the perfect screen size for a SmartPhone circa 2007 but today the vast majority of SmartPhones sold in the world have larger d

No one thinks the iPad 3 is too slow and any modern Atom processor is quite a lot faster so it shouldn't be a problem at all. These machines are extremely limited by the OS so hardware limitations are a distant concern in my opinion.
