There's also DOCSIS 3.1 on the horizon for cable providers. It will allow for a quick and dramatic increase in download speeds over existing cable HFC infrastructure. All the big market cable ISPs will be offering 1Gbit/sec download speeds

I'm sure TWC will now prioritize Austin as one of their first DOCSIS 3.1 deployments so they will likely be doing 300-500Mbit/sec at minimum by then.

From what I've seen Apple still does a far better job than other PC makers in this area.

Apple has done very well so what else are they going to say on the earnings calls? They could consult a thesaurus and come up with some less commonly used words but that comes off as snobby and unnecessary.

I tether my MacBook to my iPhone often and it would be a tough sell. ~$150 more on hardware plus another data plan? Even with data plan sharing its too much. You could say the same about the cellular iPad but the way these devices are used

Look at it from the ISP's perspective. Most are not doing metered billing (yet) so they have little to gain from customers having faster Internet connections. They certainly aren't getting a penny from the companies that are/will be making

There was no new functionality in 2013 useful to me so I ended up going back to an old version just because of the new UI. The layout is fine. I've always liked the ribbon UI. The problem is the entire UI is this block of whiteness dotted w

5 year olds are direct because they don't know how to sugar coat and spin things yet. It's not exactly a bad quality in adults. I'd rather someone just be direct with me than writing 8 paragraphs just hinting at something and hedging their

Based on the earlier rumors of Dell moving into thin clients / hosted PC service, and now Microsoft's stamp of approval assisting in this deal, it seems like there won't be much of a mainstream PC enterprise market in a few years. Just lots

The most interesting thing about iOS7 to me is how Apple will handle the issues around iCloud Documents and data portability between apps. I appreciate they are trying to move away from traditional file systems because I really believe ther

I doubt you are hitting any processing bottleneck. More likely memory capacity/bandwidth and possibly flash storage speed bottlenecks. Probably on an A4 based iOS device? I agree Apple should do a better job for these older devices however

It's definitely worth studying. I'm not sure I've seen any real data on the subject. Just lots of extreme opinions from people convinced they do cause violence and those who believe they do not. Chances are the truth is somewhere in the mid

The bold plan here is probably way more about the service of doing hosted PCs than this particular piece of hardware which is IMO a niche product at best. It's probably a safe bet people will continue to do more of their computing on SmartP

Even for portability I'm not too concerned about iCloud. You can sync it all locally and the file formats are nothing too special. At worst I might have to go through a tedious process of using the native iCloud enabled apps to export the d

Can you give specific examples of where all this extra scrolling and swiping that you're talking about is required? One quick example is the mail client. You can only see about 5 messages at a time and that's with only a one line preview
