Great idea, great that you shipped, now improve, improve, improve. Put the code on github and let people file issues and pull requests. Yes, many things in the code can be cleaned up, but kudos that you got it out there instead of having it

A good ORM is not a substitute for SQL. They help you with mundane things and you can still write SQL if you want. I like the approach of RedBeanPHP (www.redbeanphp.com).

I went comparing forum software the other day, last time I did was 10 years ago. Wanted to get a nice and simple forum up 'n running in a couple of hours. PhpBB is still the top hit when searching. But come on, we can do better than th

Fully agree, this is a serious problem and this seems to be one of the few potential solutions with lots of energy going into it, so let's give it a shot. They did quite a bit of research and they've gone way further than just &#x

Funny how great that looks, even now. Of course, style-wise it's a bit dated (style in the sense of web-fashion). But at the same time, the content is very easy to scan and descriptions are short, to the point and quite consistent. I m

Hmm, if I can get all underlying DOM, including CSS, what is the difference except massive convenience? I could imagine iframes of other origins to be blank, but that would be it, I think?

Neat. Getting some good use out of HTML2Canvas as well. But always wondering why there is no way to get a bitmap from screen... something like window.getPixels(x, y, width, height).

People make things more complicated than they are. Just eat more plants. Eat less super-easy-to-digest free-calorie foods, such as refined sugars (sucrose). This includes simple starches such as you find in white bread, rice and pasta. They

I still feel that RedBeanPHP ( http://redbeanphp.com ) has found the right balance between direct object manipulation and SQL. I find that abstracting away SQL too much gives more headaches than it's worth — SQL is a valuable

Nice post. For a slightly more comfortable setup the Arduino based JeeNode's ( http://jeelabs.org ) are worth mentioning. Super low power and quite a nice library.

Not fired in the American sense (you can't let someone go in any short term in most European countries). She let him know that he should look for another job, meanwhile he's still employed but unmotivated.

Right! I wasn't aware that the editing process is quite easy once you can target a specific gene. Awesome! :)

How can knocking out a certain gene (for all cells in your body) kill a cancer cell? For instance, for many cancer cells with a defect in 'P53' (a gene which can induce cell death), knocking out this defective gene would not help

I really love dogs, but this is just nuts. Pets belong at home, not at work. A dog tribunal? Talk about a waste of company time. I understand that in certain companies (with sky-high margins or money to burn) the line between work and play

Hm! Yes, very cool. But this is not how typical mod-files sounded. These sound more like chip-tunes (SID C64-style), whereas mod-files used quite a lot of samples. Think Fairlight stuff, Jean Michel Jarre's Zoolookologie... My favorite

No, stop it. Why is this #1 on HN right now? Just use SVG. This was fun as a demo a couple of years ago, but don't use this technique in production folks...
