Opportunity is always there, anytime and anywhere. The real questions are 1)if you can discover it. 2)if you are ready to catch it. Few years later, when we look back, I am sure that you will find some "big" companies started at 2011/2012

Comparing to C++/Java, I felt that Design Patterns are more tightly integrated with Objective-C. So it is a very important subject to learn in Objective-C, imho. And that is very good book for this important subject. Good luck!

Reading document from Apple is the best way to start. For books, I found the following are very helpful: 1) Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X (by Aaron Hillegass) 2) Cocoa Design Patterns (by Erik M. Buck and Donald A. Yacktman)

Learn Java. It is relative simple comparing to c/c++, so the initial learning curve is not steep. At the same time, JAVA (language and platform) is complicated enough to learn computer science topics. Eclipse is a great free IDE you can use
