Yeah, I've had this discussion before. I'm not convinced that its any worse than a base 3 series, but I'm also not convinced that a base 3 series is a luxury car. Sure, its a premium with premium perforance, but its not "

After I wrote that, it occurred to me that there is another counterargument. If cash-on-hand decreases along with the inflation of earnings-per-share, the business value doesn't really increase. I have always assumed that shareholders

That's sensible, but there is a lot of fear right now. People are afraid that the recession will be strong enough to cause people to cut services. Similarly, Google is advertising driven. The value of advertising can drop during a rece

I do not understand why that would happen. Wouldn't they inflate the earnings per share, resulting in a permanently higher share price (all else being equal)?

I'm not the person you are replying to, but either way, thank you for that post. That is an element that I've never thought of in that way and I can see where it presents a problem. I will add that in general I am not fond of the

I think his point is that buybacks should be no more relevant than dividends. This pop-culture meme that "dividends are irrelevant" is not unique to dividends at all.

I agree, and I think Apple is an example of a company that uses debt in a perfectly sensible way. My fear is that these debt fueled buybacks actually create perverse incentives among options holders who have a lot to gain from short term ga

I'm not sure of your point here? Presumably Tesla's capital position is still significantly smaller than VW? I do not know this, though, as I am not as familiar with VW's capital structure. TBH, I'm more worried about wh

Honestly, your point is valid except for the part about special treatment. From what I've heard, window tint shops are staying open too based upon the same exemption. Its a confusing time and the regulators haven't fully thought t

I was with you until that last bit. Its not fair to describe Tesla's buyers as only buyers of "luxury electric sports cars" at this point.

With the cars, I've come to the realization that most people just don't realize how hard it is or how many people have tried. I'm a big fan of the car industry and have looked at many of the past attempts (eg, Tucker, Brickli

Honestly, I use a pi 3b as a router/firewall and it works pretty well for up to ~90 Mbs of traffic. That is just enough for me right now. Its an unexpected use case, but it is much more stable and flexible than a lot of "better&qu

That isn't really relevant to the problem they were working around. The problem is that many firewalls block outbound ports other than port 80, 443, and some other very common ports. Put another way, if both sides block 80 incoming, th

A common definition of recession is a decline in GDP lasting for 2 consecutive quarters. It seems likely for this to cause a decline in GDP in Q1 and Q1 at a minimum, so a recession seems inevitable. I do think there will be a point when go

I wouldn't say that sticking with savings accounts is an invalid strategy. If you have enough money, many strategies are viable. If you are struggling to stay within a "safe" withdrawal rate of 2-3%, you may find that equitie
