We used NGINX with Consul (template) and Vault quite extensively until I recently found out about eBay's Fabio ( https://github.com/eBay/fabio ). Fabio is really great as an NGINX reverse proxy alternative in an e

For us scaling was never an issue; We did the stateless scale-out thing. Even solving statefull is relatively easy (at least in Java) with solutions like Hazelcast. The main drawback is there are usually only a few services in your monolit

We build a modular system based on Java with OSGi. It served us well but now we feel we have reached the limits of such a system and are looking at a more microservice based approach. For example a modular system is not going to help you wh

Do you mean to imply the parent is being negative? I think its a perfectly valid question. Unlike languages like Java which only have concurrent primatives Go is very opinionated how about to do concurrency.

I think you are not taking into account the shift out of the DB and into the application layer. People care less and less what the DB can do. Yes large slow enterprises will continue to have a need for Oracle DB. But I've never seen an

The SmartOS / Illumos community is pretty vibrant and active! Also the OpenZFS community is also very much alive. Yeah Solaris could have been bigger if they hadnt killed Opensolaris but I think things turned out pretty well actually!

I respect that Linux works for Netflix. However IMHO: BTRFS/ZoL doesn't beat Illumos ZFS. FreeBSD ZFS is pretty standalone in the OS; It can only since recently deal with a hot spare drive and thats it. IO scheduling on FreeBSD is
