I looked this up myself. "But for each of the CREDO studies, two questions need to be asked: What are the findings? and How strong are the data and analyses? The 2009 findings were somewhat favorable to conventional public schools—alth

Schools have a fixed level of funding. If employees do an amazing job it does not increase revenue. I.e it's not a business. How many great peopke do you know that will take 60k a year in salary?

I used emacs for years and I spent far too much time fiddling with it to get it to the place of something like atom.

Thanks, this is really useful in comparison to my experiences. It all makes a lot of sense to me except the data store. Is the data store supposed to replace all direct database use by other services?

I'm really shocked by your naive arrogance in this thread. You can't see beyond your own niche and use case. There is an enormous space of good content where the best method of finding that content is searching the internet, not h

This is a rather arrogant comment. Why assume that everyone fits the same niche as you? I once ran a site/blog where I blogged about a particular disease that I have and all of the research I did as I tried to understand it. This means

I've seen a number of responsive designs I like better than the full page of a regular site. Compare the following sites to using this site, HN, on a phone. http://dish.andrewsullivan.com http://video.disney.com

It's much harder to do it in photoshop for things like responsive design. Responsive is dynamic and fluid and it's very difficult to capture that in a few static comps. I like this point about web design is very relevant to Ive&#x

I don't think your conclusion follows from your other points. The people pushing for this may very well have emissions reduction as their primary goal, but they are in a system that forces the solution to something like this.

I'm sure you're right, which is why I'm moving away from ads. The examples that give me some sliver of hope are reddit and tumblr, both of which have some form of ads.
