That doesn't really narrow it down much, YC has backed so many AI coding tools that they've started inbreeding. PearAI (YC Fall '24) is a fork of Continue (YC Summer '23). https://techcrunch.com/2024/

Since these products supposedly make developers 1000x more productive it should be no problem to just re-implement those proprietary MS plugins from scratch. Right? Any volunteers...?

True, but for personal/hobby sites you probably are just better off just not knowing. Nothing good comes of tying your self-worth to how much attention you think you're getting.

My bad, I was looking at the wrong thing. They use 3rd party models for chat but you're right, they rolled their own autocomplete model from scratch.

> Windsurf a VScode fork + Agentic LLM… 3b$. They don't have their own LLMs either, they've glued a 3rd party editor to 3rd party models. That's some expensive glue.

This very thread is about LLMs hallucinating too much today. The curl dev is reporting a zero percent hit rate on automated bug reports in TYOOL 2025. You could say that's an example of the toupee fallacy, but nobody is showing up to

Drafting and summarizing emails is a funny example to draw on when that's like the canonical example of LLMs creating problems for LLMs to solve. Messages written by LLMs tend to be needlessly verbose, so people use LLMs to summarize

Porkbun is a solid all-rounder. Cloudflare sells domains at cost so they're slightly cheaper than Porkbun, but the catch is that you're forced to use CFs nameservers so YMMV depending on whether you want that flexibility.

I'm far from the first to make this observation but LLMs are like anti-compression algorithms when used like that, a simple idea gets expanded into a bloated mess by an LLM, then sent to someone else who runs it through another LLM to
