I clicked this link hoping it was about how to make a search engine, and this was the first page of many to come. Drats. :P

That wouldn't work at any company I've worked for, at all. It can often take a couple of days to get completely physically set up (desk, workstation, chair, laptop, etc), and up to 2 to 4 weeks to really get your environment completely set

The cool thing is that it's not even as facetious as it appears. "Writing down the problem" is a legitimate, and very useful, tool for problem solving, and one that is often skipped.

I'm basically the same, except I haven't achieved it yet. I want to get to 100 karma in order to be able to downvote (almost there!), but past that I don't really care. That said, I'm trying to restrain myself from posting just for the sa

But on the other hand, you spent much more time skating around than eating, versus time on the couch is 100% available for mindless snacking.

This is hardly news. As I recall, anytime Facebook does anything , people threaten to leave en masse. And guess what? It never happens. I can never get over the irony of this type of meta-journalism. It's not like TechCrunch hasn't been ac

I wonder if this is because sitting and watching TV tends to correlate with poor diet (lots of snacking on unhealthy things while on the couch), whereas it's quite difficult to eat bad stuff while moving around all the time.

I saw a talk by Matt Ridley, the author of The Rational Optimist, and it was quite interesting. One interesting question posed was whether Ridley believed in Ray Kurzweil's singularity theory. He responded that he believed futurists are loo

I'd be interested to know what a lot of these projects are. That graph suggests that there are a good number of projects that have > 90 comment lines per 100 lines, which just seems absurd. Do they count perl one-liners where there is a

You can't really blame facebook for sending messages like these when they have no idea what's happened to him. The simple solution is to let them know: http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=842#!/help/contact.php?sh...

It boggles the mind that we went from Apollo to the space shuttles in 10 years, and in the 25 years since the construction of Atlantis, we've seen virtually no advancement in American manned space flight.

The only trouble I see with this is that it needs to stay up to date with current medical knowledge (which changes all the time). The game will quickly go out of date if it is not kept strictly aligned with current medical texts.
