Thanks... I get that, but they aren't my "clients" in the sense of a client of my firm.... it is less formal than that (at the moment).... hence the question and it's about balancing a "way in" with "lear

Yeah - I think it is a combination of money and not strictly legal.... but what does 2/3 times mean? Reviewing an investor deck might take me 20/30 mins... it's not really a big deal. Advising on a contract is obviously a muc

I should clarify: I am not being asked to offer help as the company lawyer per se (they have legal counsel and I am generally familiar with the deferred payment model)... this is more of a "asking a friend for [free?] advice" situ

I should also ask, what qualifies as "help 2 or 3 times" and what kind of equity would you envisage? (I know it is highly dependent on multiple factors, but I am curious for people's experiences...)

Fair questions- I should have been more specific (and that will be part of my own thoughts once I have a few more replies). To be honest, I want to achieve all of those. 3) may not be that likely as they already have very well established l

Good points already posted, especially about buy-out being a multiple of earnings not just based on one year. A few other things to think about: why is the founder trying to buy you out? No one just pays for equity buy-back without a reason

Fair enough- looking forward to the beginner mode :) So over time is it that a user get ranked for being a better or less good interviewer and the better you are, the higher level of interview partner you get?

Hey - I really like the idea! Can you explain how the interview process will actually work? Do you oversee the interview process or is it a nominated "interviewer"? I'm also interested to know - can anyone sign up to be an an

Not sure if it works quite the same for programmers and obviously there are a lot of factors involved, but i'd recommend making "smart applications" - i.e. getting an "in" prior to sending your application. I wrote

Thanks. I applied and agree with what you said except that I think YC adds a ton of value: advice, experience, great connections, the reputational association with YC etc.... That's what differentiates YC from just getting any investme

Don't disagree that in-person is better but the OP said it was a pre-requisite to applying. I just wasn't surewhy someone would make it a pre-requisite rather than a preference....

THIS is the answer I was looking for. Thanks. I do, of course, still get the inherrent risks (especially as a non-tech founder) and the intense competition, but the crux is that idea-stage is therefore open (even if limited in liklihood) to

I think, in this forum more than any other, it is clear that this article is way too simplistic. It also makes sense that a start-up needs to be monetised / pay for itself. That said, whether because of family money or the economic-cos

All that is true and I get it (really, I do)... but I guess my point and the thread came about trying to understand what it means to be open to idea-stage because surely by definition an idea-stage venture is that- only an idea?

Agree entirely... I know HOW to get the business running, I just haven't (yet) found the right person to help me do it. My advantage is that my tech needs largely already exist in other contexts so I know the tech exists and can be re-

No.... sadly not. I think a sole tech founder is easier than a sole non-tech founder but again, as this is idea-stage, I'm wondering if there is room for a good idea without the tech side (yet)

Out of interest, why do you feel the need for other UK or French start ups just to apply? I understand the desire to be able to bounce ideas off of others but isn't the whole point of the remote office hours, that YC will be trying to
