Yes I agree. The whole concept of trying to compare energy usage is incredibly complicated.

How about the fact that llm's don't work unless humans generate all that data in the first place. I'd say the llm's energy usage is the amount it takes to train plus the amount to generate all that data. Humans are more

Don't think I would trust amazon with my drugs after all the mixed inventory business...

I had to try two antidepressants before one worked right, and it works amazingly. My anxiety is just gone. I went off it for a few years cause I was doing so well, and ending up having a breakdown, went back on it, all good again...

Please don't take medical advice from HN. Going off tons of meds cold turkey is the worst advice I've ever heard. Especially SSRIs. Talk to your doctor, and ask about getting off the meds if they aren't working for you.

My notifications are all delayed by a minute or two. The UI just chugs too.

I'll believe it when I see it. Using any of the AI tools so far to help me program are worse than garbage. They produce code that looks like it works but has subtle hard-to-find bugs it in. Also, AI researchers have been saying we will

I loved reading this paper https://philpapers.org/archive/NICITC.pdf (was linked on HN a while ago) which actually challenges that viewpoint. Disclaimer: I'm not a biologist :)

I think currently under the hood it's actually still terraform. I know they are working on their own native providers.

That's my point, I don't think it seems to matter very much... Sometimes an individual has a good idea, sometimes we all come up with good ideas...

You could make the opposite argument about all the innovations, are and science, rich people have funded throughout history. Like what if Boeing didn't have all that money to dump into airplanes.

Yeah I don't think llm are going to turn into agi anytime soon. The model is locked and not continuously updating. It's more like statistical knowledge than intelligence.

No the 3rd party profilers aren't free. But they have free trials. Java flight recorder is free and has a lot of the features of the paid ones (like the SQL tab) https://blogs.oracle.com/weblogicserver/post/jd

I've used vscode with typescript and python, but I found the amount of detail and coverage the inspections intellij has are better. The profilers that Java have are also the best I've seen. The profilers can show you crazy details

I disagree Java 21 is really nice. Lots of modern features, tons of rock solid, battle tested open source libraries. Amazing tooling.

90% of new cars can do this, it's called AEB. It's not a Tesla self driving feature.

This describes mostly what I'm experiencing. Its kind of like remembering a dream. The elephant is in a black void for me (kind of above my forehead?). And the details of what I'm imagining is like LOD in a video game.
